Intriguing engraving
This exceptional #DublinSilver box with a complex hinge and mounted agate panel was sold in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
Made by #JamesKennedy in the late 18th century, its refined uncluttered design prefigures 20th century styles.
Also from Chiswick Auctions, a #DublinSilver mounted coconut cup by William Bond, late 18th century.
Seems to have remained unsold in October 2022 against an estimate of £600 - £800.
More from Chiswick Auctions, a miniature #DublinSilver replica of the Bell of Saint Patrick (National Museum of Ireland) made by the Edmond Johnson firm in 1894.
Browsing through the Chiswick Auctions website, these charming #DublinSilver buttons, associated with the Down Hunt were sold in 2024 for £529.
Are the initials 'J.B.' on the reverse related to the maker or to the buttons' original owner?
By way of price comparison, this box, also by #JamesKennedy, sold at Chiswick Auctions in 2021 for £400 (including premium).
The engraving is less accomplished but the form is highly unusual.
At Chiswick Auctions this week, this small attractively engraved snuffbox made by #JamesKennedy in Dublin towards the end of the 18th century sold for £1,764 (including premium).
