A theme I mentioned in the Dan Goldman loss, and Diana DeGette's campaign, is that the Dem base wants "fighters," and the "establishment" is struggling to convince the base it's fighting effectively.
So, Goldman and DeGette bring up Trump impeachment and voters are unmoved. It didn't work! Valdez, DAC, Lander highlight how they threw themselves into protests - that seems to work better in safe seats.
Anyway, on my mind after listening to Joe Biden's 10-minute speech to Maryland Dems this weekend. A little bit of content: "Have you noticed, Americans today are saying the economy under the Biden administration was a hell of a lot better than under Trump?" But mostly a lot of wheezing and coughing between rhetoric about "fighting" and "getting up."
"We’re the United States of America! There’s nothing, there’s literally, nothing, nothing beyond our capacity if we act together! So let’s get up and fight back, God-darn it!"
That's what Dem primary voters heard in 2020, and Trump didn't go away. They heard Biden say it in 2024 and Trump won. It's just a bunch of empty words now.

sorry but “surrender document” and “the U.S. will not soon recover from this” are patently psychotic things to say. Why is every major liberal talking like John Milius? The avg American’s life will not be impacted by the US not menacing Iran except their gas prices will go down
You might think you're unaffected but that's because you don't see the counterfactual in which billionaires did not hoard the wealth. Every dollar spent building, say, a private submarine is a dollar not spent on a nurse's salary, a school, or social security. You live in a worse country that could be better if we taxed his wealth and used it to fix our many problems.
@Inhumansoflate1 I feel like that's its own kind of rosy optimism in a sense, that surely things can't keep getting worse, that the internal contradictions will surely get to an untenable point and it will all finally snap... but I don't know. I think things can get a lot worse before that.
Bouie and French think Platner's character is disqualifying. They have never written about:
1) Gaza
2 revelations that Larry Summers and Bill Clinton spent more than a decade hanging out with the world's most notorious child rapist
3) how billionaires corrupt politics
Scalia died in February 2016. It took Obama a full month to nominate a replacement and then he used no leverage and barely lifted a finger for Garland; the party was more focused in the moment at making sure everyone understood how racist and sexist Bernie Sanders was.
Plenty of Obama aides were actually glad when Dems lost the senate in 2014 because they were sick of Harry Reid pushing Obama to be more assertive and fight more.
They lost the Senate in 2014 largely because of Obama’s capitulation to/obsession with austerity and reducing the deficit.
He constantly insisted he had no real power — Neera will probably respond by saying he had no power — which Trump has proved totally wrong.
And when RBG died in September 2020 Trump nominated ACB the next week. They play to win.
But sure, a 5 minute segment from @chrislhayes would’ve made the difference. (And I’m sure he did do a bunch actually.)
@KyleWOrton It speaks to the gravity of Israeli crimes that these views are becoming more widely accepted. The more Israel brutalizes the Palestinians and Lebanese, especially with so many Israelis celebrating the brutalization online, the more others will accept this perspective.
You can't afford groceries but the federal government is giving $50M to a US billionaire who runs a company that produces technology to bomb civilians and stalk migrants.
This is bad, bad, bad

I am a single issue voter anymore. If you support Israel in literally any way shape or form I will not vote for you. I do not care about literally anything else anymore. How can anyone see this and ignore it.
@sorianojohnd@ryangrim Lol what? So the most pressing policy issue is simply letting people make choices about their own bodies? Like, I think face tattoos are a bad idea, should I want to ban people from deciding to get them? And that's the biggest issue for you, huh?
