Dr. Alexander was the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in economics in the United States. She went on to become a prominent civil rights advocate, pushing for the integration of the American Bar Association and improving economic opportunities for Black communities.
Anna Julia Cooper was a pioneering scholar and activist and one of the first African American women to earn a doctoral degree.
She became a powerful voice for empowering Black women and was a staunch advocate for education and social justice. #BlackHistoryMonth
Born into slavery, Robert Smalls became a hero by commandeering a Confederate ship to freedom during the Civil War. After the war, Smalls became a politician, advocating for the rights of freedmen and serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. #BlackHistoryMonth
