My kid (6) just asked me to read him a book. And then he said, “No, wait, I’m gonna read YOU a book”.

And then he did.

So yeah this is pretty much the best day of my life so far.

I lost my engagement ring during a move whilst pregnant. It has no monetary value, but is extremely sentimental. The emerald in the middle of its setting is a family heirloom, and when my husband gave it to me, he said, “It’s green, like your heart.” (I’m part Irish.) I think about it every now and then. So today my two year old, who stayed home sick from preschool, sang, “I got a gift for youuuu,” poured out the contents of a little satchel and pointed to MY ENGAGEMENT RING!

I still keep that list in my wallet. Every time I go grocery shopping I pick up strawberries, even when I don’t need them. Some days I just stand in the aisle and smile, because that crumpled paper is the last time he thought of me before he left
