Murtala was a baby war criminal. His biggest crime was the Asaba massacre during the civil war where he ordered the murder of about 700 innocent people.

Henry Kissinger, who ordered Murtala's assassination was a real war criminal who was responsible for literally tens of millions of deaths across Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Latin America, and he lived a long and happy life. Despite being many prders of magnitude worse than the worst version of Murtala, he died just 3 years ago at age 100 surrounded by his children and grandchildren, with the genocidal American war machine he built still busy industrially murdering black and brown people all over the world.

So I'm no longer interested in any sermons about whatever Murtala Mohammed did wrong. The world clearly doesn't run on morality tales and if Africans are willing to give grace to the likes of Kissinger, Obama, Bush, Biden etc, then I can definitely give grace to Murtala Mohammed. He was a far smaller sinner than any of the other names.

On this day in 1961, the US started spraying Agent Orange in a campaign called “Operation Ranch Hand,” which would last 10 years. The intention was to kill as much plant life as possible to deny the Viet Kong access to food and cover. Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese died and millions got cancer.

The use of Agent Orange left residue in the soil that to this day still results in an increase of bizarre birth defects and mutations.

Agent Orange was developed and deployed without testing to understand it's long term effects, to either the citizens or the environment.
