@GodstimeAtas how is abj just a year younger than Gowon? i mean Gowon was quite senior to him in the army. also consider the fact that Obj might in reality be much older than 90. @beege
My ogas in the Army, please don't take offense at this my comment, it is from a place of concern and not an attempt to disrespect the military. That said,
The Nigerian military is very very poorly trained , led, equiped and managed. I have come to realize that most of what comprises their strategy is gidigbo gidigbo firing into the bushes and hoping the enemy gets scared and flees. Basic maneuvers under fire, coordinated war fighting , emplacement techniques and base defense is all lacking. It's all about firing as much bullets as possible then fleeing when you run out. There are no mortars, no overwatch, no traps, no wires, it's all bullets and insha Allah. I think I am not surprised, because what do you frankly expect from a military whose training doctrine includes "suffering" of soldiers to supposedly harden them in place of actual proper infantry training and war fighting. As far as these guys are concerned, once they are able to make you sit on your head, crawl inside gutter, and bully those that cannot shoot back, they believe you have been properly trained.
It is in Nigeria that you ll see an infantry squad that doesn't have a basic over watch drone, FOBs that don't have mortars, snipers, gpmg emplacements, bunkers, wires, mines, traps, or appropriate response procedures training on fighting back against an invasion....as long as they all can shout back faya, faya..they believe thats all.
People are been wasted , dying needlessly because the Army does not know how to fight back properly again mass numbers of people that can shoot back.
If I were to setup an FOB, I will appoint sniper/scout units on bikes every 3 km in a radius around the FOB, 6 deep, with ground installed movement/perimeter sensors... nothing 12km out is coming to me as a surprise.
There is a way we will build out the perimeter trenches such that attackers are funneled to kill points, and I will install gpmg points in arches that overlap all around the FOB based on effective range. Each squad of ten/12 will have an overwatch/radio guy with a basic dji drone (5m naira at most), a machine gunner, mortar guy, rpg guy then the rest rifle men. There would have been ceaseless training and drilling on measures to take once invaders come and how exactly to fight back.
In this day an age, there is no viable excuse as to why a Standing army of a nation should lose a fight or have its FOB overan by a bunch of ragtag terrorist fighters if not for lack of proper training and leadership. It is an embarrassing thing...and you don't even need air support....we are not Americans. What you need are overwatch drones, and proper fighting manouvres , skills and training.
See as bloody civilian like myself dey chook mouth for military matters using common sense...that should embarrass everyone that truly understands military matters...if the solutions and what to do are that obvious to me, a Civilian, then the specialists have ZERO excuse. ZERO
@Rise_Forge And that was why at the dawn of Boko Haram, our armoured corps- that necessary teeth arm of the army had barely enough serviceable tanks to prosecute the war.
