The Girnar Hill inscription at Junagadh, Gujarat, dates to c. 150 CE and bears inscriptions of Ashoka, Rudradaman I, and Skandagupta. Pusyagupta, governor of Chandragupta Maurya, built the dam of Sudarsana Lake. During the reign of Ashoka, the Yavana official Tusapha added canals and other hydraulic works to the lake.

Rudradaman I’s Junagadh inscription (c. 150 CE) records the repair and restoration of the Sudarshana Lake, an important irrigation reservoir built during the Mauryan period. It praises his achievements and mentions his control over parts of Malwa, Gujarat, Sindh and western Maharashtra, as well as Girinagara (Junagadh) and Urjayat (Girnar).

The Junagadh (Girnar) Inscription of Skandagupta, Skandagupta restored the Sudarshana Lake, built two temples, and celebrated his victory over the Hunas.

Major Points of Ashoka’s Major Rock Edict XIII.( Khalsi )

In his 8th regnal year, Devanampiya Piyadasi conquered Kalinga. 150,000 were deported, 100,000 killed, and many more died.

Ashoka deeply regretted the suffering caused by the conquest, especially to Brahmanas, Śramaṇas, householders, families, friends and relatives.

He declared that Dhamma, self-control, impartiality and kindness toward all beings were the true form of conquest.

Devanampiya’s Dhamma-vijaya extended up to 600 yojanas, reaching the Greek king Antiochus and beyond him Ptolemy, Antigonus, Magas and Alexander, as well as southward to the Cholas, Pandyas and Tamraparni.

Within his territory, Greeks, Kambojas, Nabhakas, Bhojas, Andhras, Paladas and others followed his instruction in Dhamma.

@RoyalTiger97 South Indian rulers like Rajendra Chola I also campaigned in the North, defeated Mahipala, and reached the Ganga. I never asked you for evidence of that, did I? I don’t believe in “North India vs. South India”—I believe in Bharat. 🇮🇳

Prayag Prashasti records Samudragupta’s conquests across India:

• 9 rulers of Aryavarta defeated
• 12 rulers of Dakshinapatha defeated and released
• Frontier states and republics offered tribute, gifts and submission

Composed by his court poet Harishena, c. 4th century CE.

“Just a prashasti” isn’t an argument. It is a primary historical source, and dismissing it simply because it was issued by a monarch proves nothing. The inscription itself does not present this as some simplistic “North vs South” conflict. Indian history records rulers from both regions campaigning beyond their own territories—South Indian rulers moved north, and northern rulers moved south. If you claim Samudragupta’s southern campaign is false, the burden is on you to provide evidence contradicting the inscription, not merely dismiss the source.

@RoyalTiger97 Do you have any evidence showing that the account given in the Prayaga Prashasti is false?
