Every contribution, large or small, saves lives
Hanan Jaber, a 30-year-old single mother living in Gaza, cares for her three young children: eight-year-old twins Mustafa and Kholoud, and six-year-old Jude. The family has been displaced eight times due to bombings that destroyed their neighborhood and home. Kholoud was born with a pelvic defect and underwent corrective surgery at 18 months old, after which doctors initially expected full recovery. However, by age four, she began experiencing difficulty walking due to inadequate blood supply to the bone head in her pelvis, leading to bone death and misalignment. Medical professionals in Gaza, including visiting foreign specialists, determined she required a second surgery to install prosthetic joints, a procedure unavailable locally. At age six, Hanan took Kholoud to a specialist in Egypt who confirmed the need for the operation and indicated it could be performed there, but the genocide prevented their return for treatment. Now eight, Kholoud endures constant severe pain, struggles to walk, and receives no pain medication, often crying at night while Hanan attempts to provide minor relief through massages. The family faces ongoing severe malnutrition, shortages of food, clean water, hygiene products, and basic medical care, compounded by high costs for essentials, rent for a small room, fuel, phone charging, and internet access. Hanan has developed significant back pain from carrying heavy loads, including her daughter and water containers. They rely entirely on donations to meet daily survival needs and to fund Kholoud's estimated $5,000 surgery, plus additional costs for travel and accommodations once crossings allow safe exit, as their only means of obtaining necessary support and medical care.
