Happy news from Finland! 🇫🇮
Summer is in full swing here in Finland — but later this year, Canada can expect some seriously cool Finnish expertise. 🇨🇦❄️
Arctia will provide icebreaking services for the Canadian Coast Guard in the Arctic.
It’s a great example of Finnish know-how supporting safe navigation, security of supply and stronger cooperation between Finland and Canada.
When it comes to Arctic expertise, Finland knows how to break the ice. 🧊

Today, many were shocked by yet another video of the drone “safari” Russians are carrying out against civilians in Kherson. A Russian drone deliberately hunted down a man selling vegetables and detonated right next to him. The Russians even admitted to the crime, showing zero regret and openly boasting about tormenting people. The man was wounded in the blast. Every single day, ordinary people in Kherson face these Russian "safaris."
The world must see this. It must see every piece of evidence that Russia has gone mad and that its soldiers take pleasure in killing and abusing civilians. Without pressure on Russia, the dismantling of its capacity for aggression, and real security guarantees, it is simply impossible to imagine the world being able to coexist with this evil. We must remain resolute in defending life. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to seriously think about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones.
This is not just about Ukraine. Russia’s campaign against human life must be stopped here in Ukraine before it spreads further. Finland and Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Poland, the countries of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova—all should work together to ensure real security guarantees and bring Russia’s war to an end. Peace is needed, which requires cooperation among everyone in the world who truly values peace. Thank you to everyone standing with Ukraine!
Tsihanouski vapautui kesäkuussa osana Yhdysvaltain neuvottelemaa poliittisten vankien vapautusratkaisua.
Tapasin Tsihanouskin Kööpenhaminassa EU-ulkoministerien kokouksen yhteydessä. Kiitin Sjarheitä ja hänen vaimoaan Svetlanaa tekemästään työstä. Uhrauksiaan emme osaa edes kuvitella.
Tänä vuonna Suomi on Etyjin puheenjohtaja. Etyj on käynnistänyt ihmisoikeusmekanismeja Valko-Venäjän rikkomusten tutkimiseksi, ja uusi Helsinki+50 -rahasto myöntää varoja kansalaisyhteiskunnan tukemiseksi.
We Finns know Russia. Finland, a neighbouring country to Russia, consistently remained an independent democracy through the Second World War and the Cold War.
Take it from us: Putin has no intention to stop his expansionist pursuit. He will enter talks, enjoy the limelight, and take whatever he possibly can without making any genuine concessions.
Russia must be kept at bay and within its own borders with credible economic and military pressure. That is what ’peace through strength’ is all about.
Ukraine and Europe deserve to live in peace. There is no panacea. An isolated quick fix leads to more trouble down the line - also to the US.
So far Russia has shown no interest in peace. Ahead of any talks, Russia could signal goodwill by, for instance, returning forcibly relocated Ukrainian children back to their parents.
Lasting peace needs a comprehensive plan for the years to come. A negotiated settlement should encompass a process, ensuring Ukraine’s and Europe’s security, including containment of the multi-domain threat Russia is posing.
This process could also manage a gradual and conditional easing of sanctions pressure. It can’t be a one-off deal.
This is the time for Europe. Europe is stepping up: committing even more to security and further increasing defence spending. And no matter what, Europe will be at the tables deciding about Europe. It’s our people, our values, our future.
But defending the free world takes the US, too. This space is closely being watched also in the Indo-Pacific. A secure and stable Europe is in America's interest and going forward, the US will need strong allies.
I strongly condemn Russia’s attacks which have targeted residential buildings in Ukrainan cities, killed and injured civilians, and damaged the building of the Ukrainian Government in Kyiv.
We need to increase pressure and sanctions against Russia.
Another night of deadly air strikes in Ukraine. Russia hit central Kyiv, damaging a government building.
We condemn these strikes in the strongest possible terms.
The attacks highlight the urgent need for a ceasefire. #OSCE25FI

The brazenness of the Russians keeps growing – they are attacking Ukraine more and more often in broad daylight with dozens of strike drones. Last night there were 150 drones; this morning over fifty more; in the evening dozens more, and most of them were “shaheds.” In fact, swarms of Russian drones in our skies serve as an accompaniment to Russia’s statements from China. An open disregard by Russia for everything the world is doing to stop this war.
Yesterday, the Russians literally denied what President Trump said about the leaders’ meeting that is needed to end the war. These days in China, Putin keeps spinning his tales – as if he is not responsible for the war. As if someone always “forces” him – to fight, to kill, to drive children into shelters, to send thousands of people to storm our positions. And now we see another buildup of Russian forces in some sectors of the front. The only thing he refuses to be “forced” into is peace.
Russia continues to launch strikes. Of course, we will respond, including asymmetrically as well – so that Russia truly feels the consequences of its audacity. And we continue working with our partners to put pressure on Russia – and that will happen.

It’s was healthy that both Chancellor Merz 🇩🇪 and President Macron 🇫🇷 were explicit in calling for a 🇺🇦🇷🇺 ceasefire as the necessary first step. President Trump 🇺🇸 was less than pleased. But there is no route towards peace that doesn’t start with a ceasefire.
Pienen maan edustaja on aivan maailmanpolitiikan keskiössä.
If the 🇺🇸 Trump peace plan involves the 🇪🇺 EU sending "peacekeeping" troops to 🇺🇦 Ukraine via the EU Battlegroup, would you support 🇮🇪 Ireland's involvement?
President Stubb:
Some of the international media might wonder, "Why is the President of Finland here?" I think the reason is probably that we might come from a small country, but we have a long border with Russia, over 800 miles, and we have our own historical experience with Russia from World War II, the Winter War, and the War of Continuation.
And if I look at the silver lining of where we stand right now, we found a solution in 1944, and I'm sure that we'll be able to find a solution in 2025 to end Russia's war of aggression and get a lasting and just peace.
