One of the recent documentaries Geoffrey Thomas and I worked on was about the 737 Max crash.
He always brought a different perspective to the narrative.

After an accomplishment filled week by President Trump, I have the pleasure of reading a piece of Friday fiction, courtesy of the Daily Mail.
To be crystal clear, I am not going anywhere. I am honored and proud to serve President Trump, proud of our team and remain fully committed to advancing his agenda on behalf of the American people.
Some in the media have spent a decade trying to manufacture drama around President Trump and people who work for him. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now.
See you Monday.

There are many aviation journalists but none like GT.
From Seattle to London and everywhere in between, and then as our resident aviation expert on Ticker News, Geoffrey Thomas loved aviation and knew it inside out.
Fly on GT, rest well, and thank you for the memories. ✈
New statement from Scott Pelley:
There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.
The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58thseason, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.
“60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.
The waste is heartbreaking.
Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.
For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.
At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.
I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.

The Embassy has been approached by several Australian media outlets regarding the arrest of an Australian citizen from Adelaide who allegedly worked for the Ukraine military as a drone operator without authorisation.
The decision to initiate criminal proceedings against this individual, as far as we understand, has been taken in accordance with Australian law.
The Russian side considers him, as well as several dozen other Australians who had been and are fighting on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces, to be mercenaries.
According to Russian law, a mercenary is a person acting for the purpose of receiving material compensation and who is not a citizen of a state participating in an armed conflict or military actions, does not permanently reside on its territory, and is not a person sent to perform official duties.
Under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Mercenarism”), participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict or military actions shall be punishable by imprisonment for a term of seven to fifteen years with or without restriction of liberty for a term of up to one year.
At the same time, we emphasise that granting Australian citizens authorisations to work for the Ukrainian armed forces would mean Australia’s direct engagement in the conflict.
I would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse that is negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans at airports throughout the country
Statement on strikes on Al Minhad Air Base
On the morning of 18 March 2026 (AEDT), an Iranian strike impacted an area at the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, where the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has a long‑standing presence.
No ADF personnel were injured in the incident, and all ADF personnel deployed to the Middle East are safe and accounted for.
The strike resulted in minor damage to an accommodation block and medical facility in the Australian section of the base.
Defence’s focus is on ensuring the safety and security of our people, and we will continue to revise force protection measures as the situation in the Middle East evolves.

🚨 Breaking: IRGC Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani is confirmed safe in Israel 🇮🇱
It can now be revealed that he played a key role in the elimination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leaders Nasrallah and Safieddine, and elimination of Khamenei and top IRGC generals.
OpenAI has reached a historic agreement with the Pentagon to ensure AI tools are not used for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons.
Dr Karen Sutherland from Uni SC explains.
We are aware that due to the situation on the ground there are reported phone connectivity issues in several destinations in the Middle East. We are diverting phone lines for affected Embassies and Consulates to the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra.
Unfortunately it has been a distressing evening. We held a community forum in Goldstein. It was then stormed by @CFMEU and Neo Nazis who sought to intimidate myself and those in attendance. Thank you to @VictoriaPolice for coming to protect the community.
