Yesterday, May 9, was National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Illegal fentanyl is currently driving the recent increase in U.S. drug overdose deaths. Fentanyl is odorless, tasteless, and extremely potent. In fact, it’s 50x more potent than heroin. @YHSMrsMero#YHSWISE2023#FBI#WISE
During this final week of WISE, I worked in gathering everything I need in order to close out the year. I have finished up with my articles (annotated bins) and have been working on my final presentation. I’m excited to present on May 16! @YHSMrsMero#WISE#FBI#YHSWISE2023
This is a great way to get younger people that are interested in the FBI involved. There aren’t many opportunities for high school students to get experience with the FBI so people should definitely take advantage of this opportunity. Personally, I would love to try this out.
#FBILR's Future Agents in Training program gives high school students a behind-the-scenes look at the #FBI. You can visit https://t.co/naWfOfFKLd to learn more about the FAIT program and to apply for this year's three-day course in Little Rock, AR.
I was able to buy my poster board for the symposium this week and I began to brainstorm ideas for the symposium.I’m super excited to share the things I’ve learned throughout the year on May 18th at the symposium. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! @YHSMrsMero#YHSWISE#FBI
There will have to be specific legal boundaries set up so that this entire situation doesn’t get out of hand in the future. @YHSMrsMero#YHSWISE2023#FBI#WISE
The presence of AI in the music industry has caused many questions. A major concern is content creators and musicians having their work plagiarized by AI technologies. There have already been many songs released that have been made with AI, and sound like a specific artist.
This is a very cool scene! It’s crazy to see how these two Stapleton brothers were so successful in such different fields. One pursued a career in the FBI, while the other is a country music star. They talked about important info regarding AI and it’s effects for the future…
@FBIIndianapolis Special Agent in Charge Herb Stapleton spoke with his brother Chris Stapleton at #RSAC on the risks of generative AI & the creation of synthetic content in the music industry and how this emerging technology could negatively affect artists in the near future.
In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, members of the FBI will be going live on Twitter on Wednesday, April 19th. They will discussing about how to prevent online child sexual exploitation. The live is from 2-3 PM EST. @YHSMrsMero @YHSWISE2023 #FBI#WISE
It was great to meet with Mrs. Mero yesterday and talk over some things for going forward in WISE. The meeting definitely helped me hone in on what I need to get done for the end of the year in WISE. I also got a chance to check out some poster boards from students in the past.
After many different operations in attempt to find people at the root of this fraud, the FBI had got their people. On April 11, 2000, 26 individuals were charged and eventually convicted of their crimes. @YHSMrsMero#YHSWISE2023#FBI#WISE
The autographed sports memorabilia market is approximately $1 billion per year. While memorabilia fraud was prevalent in the 1990’s, experts estimate that nearly $100 million were taken from this market.
The job was called Operation Bullpen because most of the memorabilia fraud was occurring with fake signatures on baseballs. @YHSMrsMero#YHSWISE2023#FBI#WISE
In the 1990’s, memorabilia fraud was threatening the sports souvenir industry. In order to combat this fraud, FBI special agents went undercover alongside the IRS to infiltrate the groups carrying out these actions.
They explained how they’re always on their toes, and one day they may be doing something in the office, but then the next day they could be making an arrest on a dangerous individual. This lack of repetition is what makes the job so interesting. #YHSWISE2023#FBI@YHSMrsMero
After hearing two FBI agents speak this past week, the part that stuck with me the most was definitely how they described the job as extremely different from others.
At the Law Enforcement Club this past week, we got to meet 2 FBI agents. It was very interesting to learn all about their day to day lives and what inspired them to join the FBI. They also gave some insightful stories about their time serving as an agent. @YHSMrsMero#FBI#WISE
