" BABY, THERE'S A FIRE --- "

Eyes on the back of her neck; a distinct feeling she had never lost. Especially now, especially here, where Peacekeepers love to gather and act important.

She's minding her own business, buying alcohol for Haymitch-- never say she didn't love him, with the prices she has to pay.

[𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐑 — @Ofangelsnroses]

He's at the hob, observing everyone and their purchases.

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

@Iuxveritatis ++

He's rough. Palms callused from hard work, and she relishes in running her thumb over them, distracting her mind a little further.

"I'm not used to it. Are you?"

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

Katniss feels the sudden need to take the hand nearest to her, and her eyes may convey as much before darting away-- what was it she had told Finnick? 'Everyone knows my secrets before I do'?

Unfortunately that was still true.

Another bite of the bun to avoid answering.

[Peeta. @Iuxveritatis]

he’s nodding, setting the tray down and brushing his hands off on the apron he still wore.

“ yeah, I’m good. you sure? ”

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

@Iuxveritatis Peeta's concern always touched her.

How could someone as delightful and warm as the breads he baked simply... Exist? Katniss debates it a moment longer, before reaching out, hand desperate despite its casualness, for Peeta's.

"... Peace. An impossible feeling, right?"

Haymitch.

[𝙃 . 𝘼𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙮 @hdrunkoftwelve]

Sweetheart.

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

Aren't we all.

[𝙃 . 𝘼𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙮 @hdrunkoftwelve]

I'm still alive... Unfortunately.

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

It's a small smile in return, but a smile nonetheless.

"... I'm okay. Yeah." Katniss waves back, coming closer once her hand drops, and gingerly picking up one of the pastries from the tray.

"You?" The hum she lets out is pleased, upon biting into the bun. "Are... You okay?"

[Peeta. @Iuxveritatis]

he’s greeting her with a smile, a small wave with his free hand.

“ hey! you okay? ”

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

She's loitering about.

It's less for the cheese buns for once, and more for their maker; whom she greets quietly, with less confidence than she would like.

"... Hey."

[Peeta. @Iuxveritatis]

bakery’s clean and closed and he’s got fresh cheese buns in case anyone is interested

Another question lingers, unspoken:

Why are you in the woods?

[𝐸𝒱𝐸𝑅𝒟𝐸𝐸𝒩. @AIMBETRUE]

This one didn't seem much for explanations.

Friendly... almost too much. Katniss tries not to look at her new company with suspicion, but it's harder than some might imagine; the most she can manage is a half-smile.

"Sure thing. Always good to get feedback, right?"

ㅤㅤㅤAfter a faint smile, she approaches.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ────ㅤOh, I haven't eaten at all; a bite to eat would be great. I'll be the judge of your dish.

She finishes skinning the rabbit with care, placing the pelt aside for selling later-- and then begins taking the best parts of the meat, the fattest, before dropping them into the roiling broth of beef stock.

"What's your name?" Not one to beat around the bush.
