The Conservatives are only marginally better than Labour in Defence funding terms. Thatcher’s initial funding cuts would have sold off its aircraft carriers. Of the Argentine junta had held off 6-9 months Britain could probably have not mustered a force sufficient to retake the Falkland Islands.

What Margaret Thatcher aimed at was reviving the economy. This made it easier for Britain to maintain its military, but the military was an afterthought.

I don’t think there has been a truly defence focused Prime Minster since Churchill.

@RoKhanna A 100% tax on your net worth would surely help at least several hundred. None of these communists ever offer all their own money first. The millionaire Bernie Sanders stopped calling for a tax on millionaires when he hit that target himself and switched to billionaires.

The video now sadly makes that very clear. The delay in calling for an ambulance is appalling. It actually makes the pathologist statement all the more suspect and, frankly, irrelevant. We are told constantly that any delay in treatment can be crucial. Sideenly, it doesn’t matter.

I think a key issue is that the police didn’t know it wouldn’t have made a difference to call and ambulance earlier or not. They had already decided that Mr Novak didn’t matter because it was about racism and he was the racist. Nothing else mattered to them, including his life.

If being merely suspected of being racist is career ending in the UK police, then this must be too. Some sort of criminal charges should be considered as well.

Dogs do modulate their responses based on how long the separation has been. It’s just that the baseline is so high. Even my dogs as they got older and sick, still showed this - I could visibly see them being excited in their eyes, even as their bodies couldn’t generate the same vibrating energy.

Wouldn’t that title be better ascribed to the staff and management at the NYT who harassed and abused her?

The world has benefited greatly from her liberation from the NYT cesspool, as traumatic as it must have been for her. She built @TheFP and built a shining light of real journalism.
