I closed my phone, carried my bags and walked into my hostel with no more high blood pressure. Knowing and trusting that she was going to do even more than what I needed her to do on her own.
“Initiative”
I always wondered what was so great about it.
I mean, I’m smart enough to know it is a good quality to have, but why? Why is it so desired by leaders and bosses?
That’s something I realised recently.
🧵⬇️
It was sudden, but I had to make sure it gets done ASAP. I put down the large bag I was holding, standing on the street in front of my hostel, as I frantically typed instructions.
My neck pulsed from stress as I thought about typing this all out.
That was one of many incidents with my team since I became president.
You’d be surprised how much stress it takes off your team lead when you do the little things without being asked to, and how much your team will grow when you are contributing ideas as much as they are.
The pain in my neck and pressure in my chest suddenly vanished with the pressure of posting taken off me. She was working all on her own. An automatic machine. A diligent colleague.
I smiled. So this is what initiative looks like from a leader's perspective. It feels nice.
She had already started, and in fact, the only reason she had not posted was that
“Most people use social media in the evening.”
She was aiming for the highest engagement. - something I wouldn’t have done myself.
Maybe I should make a VN, might have to call her.
Life is stressful. I have to chase after her to make sure she gets this done today, I thought.
That's when I saw her typing back.
