The court ruled that gas suffocation “presents a ‘substantial risk of serious harm’—severe pain over and above death itself.” That once would have made it unconstitutional but SCOTUS now requires prisoners to also show that another method is available to carry out the execution.
Even if you support the death penalty, people with intellectual disabilities should never 🙅♀️ be executed. The Supreme Court ruled that unconstitutional over 20 years ago.
If #EdwardBusby’s lawyers and the State of Texas agree he's intellectually disabled, why is he still facing execution on Thursday??
🪦If carried out, it will be Texas’ 600th execution in the modern era. No other state comes close.

AIUSA State Death Penalty Abolition Coordinator for Alabama, Dawson Hicks, stated, “Amnesty International opposes the death penalty as a violation of the right to life and as the ultimate cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment. We will never stop working to abolish it in Alabama and around the world.”
