Calvin Coolidge is my favorite President.

John Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4, 1872, in Plymouth Notch, Vermont.

Although he was named after his father he was always addressed by his middle name.

When Coolidge was 12 years old his mother died from tuberculosis. When Coolidge was 18 years old his younger sister died from appendicitis at the age of 15.

He enrolling at Amherst College. He distinguished himself in the debating class.

After college Coolidge moved to Northampton, Massachusetts, to become a lawyer.

In 1897, he was admitted to the Massachusetts bar. He was a country lawyer. In 1898 he opened up his own law office.

In 1903, Coolidge met Grace Goodhue. On October 4, 1905 they were married.

In 1906 the local GOP nominated him for election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He won a close victory.

He voted in favor of women's suffrage and the direct election of Senators.

In 1910 he won the race for Mayor of Northampton In 1912 he ran the State Senate seat for the Hampshire County. He won.

In 1916 he ran for Lieutenant Governor. He won the primary and general election.

In 1918 he was unopposed for the GOP nomination for Governor of Massachusetts His running mate was Channing Cox. He became the 35th Governor of Massachusetts.

During his first year as Governor he dealt with the Boston police strike. Coolidge put down the rebellion. This earned him a national reputation as a enforcer of law and order.

Coolidge easily won reelection in 1819.

In 1920 Warren Harding was the GOP nominee for President. Coolidge was selected as VP. Coolidge campaign hard for the ticket.

He was the first VP to regularly attend cabinet meeting. During his tenure as VP the legend of Silent Cal was born. He was known as a man of few words. He was uncomfortable among the Washington society.

On August 2, 1923, Harding passed away from a heart attack. Coolidge was visiting his family home in Vermont. The home didn't have electricity nor a telephone. When he heard about his Harding death he said a prayer. His father, a justice of the peace delivered the oath of office his son

In 1924 Coolidge signed the Immigration Act that restricted immigration from southern and eastern European.

In 1924 Coolidge signed the Revenue Act of 1924 into law, that reduced the top marginal tax rate from 58% to 46%

In 1924 Coolidge signed the Indian Citizenship Act granting citizenship to all Native Americans born in US.

On June 30, 1924, his son Calvin Jr. played tennis with his brother without putting on socks. This led to a blister in one of his toes. This developed into sepsis. Calvin Jr. died a little over a week later at the age of 16. Coolidge never recovered from his son death.

Coolidge easily won the election of 1924. His VP was Charlies Dawes.

In 1925 Coolidge appointed Harlan F. Stone to the US Supreme Court.

In 1927 Coolidge signed Radio Act into law.

Coolidge is widely praise for his actions on race relations. He repeatedly called for laws to make lynching into a federal crime.

On Foreign Policy he wasn't interested in world affairs. He was reluctant to enter into any European involvements. He didn't want to join the League of Nations.

In 1928 Coolidge shocked the world by announcing he wasn't running for reelection.

In retirement he wrote his autobiography and wrote a syndicated newspaper column, “Calvin Coolidge Says”

Coolidge was a devout Christian

On January 5th he died due to coronary thrombosis

His final were heartbreaking, “I feel I no longer fit in with these times.”

That was the life of Calvin Coolidge the 30th President of the United States.
