WOOT. I did a thing! I started a #Booktube channel. Super excited to join this community. #sorrynotsorry for the awkward fun of this video. 🥳@ReadWithABooks https://t.co/IE57NT0FL5
For me, I’m wondering how to transform my mindset to continually build bridges, to seek out on a daily basis the truth of lived realities from people all across the world, & to make it a conscious effort, not a temporary one fueled only by the injustice that’s publicized.
To add another voice of wisdom, Yaa Gyasi wrote a piece on @guardian about BIPOC narratives being “medicinal” in nature for white readers. There's no "step-by-step/quick solution" to learning someone’s lived reality. https://t.co/YklJ5sd5yR
Of course, I believe in the power of stories, but stories alone can’t save us if you can only consider their ideas, and not their reality. No book will make you antiracist. No bestseller will absolve you. No diversity panel can make you care.
I’m … going to be a published author??! 😭😭
this is the all-asian book of my heart and my love letter to beijing and i am so SO excited to share it with you guys in fall 2022 !!!
REMINDER: I’ve bought just about the ENTIRE inventory of my books in DC. Which means they are FREE at almost all the indie bookstores. All the @PoliticsProse stores, @MahoganyBooks, @Loyaltybooks, @eastcitybooks, @kramerbooks, @SankofaDC, and @solidstatedc.
@EllieSPindolia Ellie, if you want to DM me, I can give you my email and I'd be happy to look it over! I've written a handful of cover letters for writing positions in the past. :)
Past me: I'll never be that workaholic adult who has 2 part-time jobs.
Present me: Working 3 part-time jobs. Enrolled as a full-time grad student. Writing two novels. Owns a cat who ate her earbuds yesterday.
@EllieSPindolia The "Smaht Pahk" commerical for the 2020 Hyundai Sonata — it was hilarious because it highlighted smart parking features using an all-star cast with Boston accents (whether it was stereotyping that accent is another story...).
@AintNoPThang essentially, you helped me give myself permission to sit with myself and be okay with my reading habits (or lack thereof). Your suggestions for bookish podcasts and music were awesome btw, and I am definitely going to check them out! ♥️📚
@AintNoPThang thank you for your fantastic article on @BookRiot. It made me feel heard as a writer during COVID. I've felt SO guilty for reading books partway then giving up—even though I have time, it's so, so hard to focus on things I love in a pandemic. https://t.co/zbIs0dqv3G
