@Monkeyiobe@Jenny_1884 An 80 year old pensioner living in their house that they have worked very hard to pay off and maintain have every right to enjoy the fruits of their labour regardless of a theoretical value. I suggest you do the same and stop the jealousy! Unrealised assets dont make person rich
@DangerMouse104@Jenny_1884 Close public sector defined benefit pensions to new entrants. They can have defined contribution schemes like the rest of us! Level the playing fields
@MarkRuddStaffs@Jenny_1884 Life is hard when first in the job market. It's hard work on low pay to get established and start building wealth regardless of quals. Always has been and always will be. I spent 18 mnths on the dole in the 80s. Difference is I didn't begrudge my grandparents a decent pension
@DavidLammy If people want that commitment they have the option of Civil Partnership, it's not difficult. I don't see why protection should be offered where there is no commitment
People are rightly worried about Reform winning power on a small % of votes
But as Emma Harrison from Make Votes Matter says: NO party should have 100% power on a fraction of the vote. It doesn't matter who they are
Times have changed, & the voting system has to change with it
Farage has done untold damage to the British economy by being instrumental in Brexit; enormous damage to British society by inflaming ethnic divisions; and incalculable damage to the probity of British politics by countenancing obscene levels of funding from disreputable sources.
@timetoshine1234@KemiBadenoch You are totally out of order on that. Did you actually listen to what she was saying? It is you that is playing politics!
New: Over 100 MPs have signed an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill calling for a national commission into electoral reform.
The amendment, tabled by the chair of the APPG for Fair Elections Alex Sobel, has been signed by 72 Labour back benchers.
Electoral Reform has taken on a new significance recently in light of support from potential leadership contenders: Andy Burnham said this weekend he is "committed to proportional representation".
The bill's third reading is expected in mid-to-late June (possibly later).
Left: Nigel Farage using the murder of Henry Nowak to sew division in society, "rights of white people matter less than ethnic minorities"
Right: Henry Nowak's father, "We do not want his death used to create further division hated or tension"
@JayLythgow78@RMTunion@SandyofSuffolk Defined benefit pensions are not sustainable, you may remember that the Private sector had them and had to get rid due to unaffordability of massive provisions needed to sustain them. Public Sector don't seem to have that issue as funded by the tax payer
@implausibleblog I think you've got this one wrong as you need to know the context of the interview and see it all the way through. She evidently, from her voice, felt very deeply about it and I have to say I pretty much agree with everything she said
