"Is oat milk okay?"

It's a question more baristas are asking customers now when they order their coffee.

And every time it's asked, plant-based milk becomes the normal choice instead of the special request.

This week we visited two more cafés making oat milk their default. Cielo Cakery in Brighton and Biblos Wraps in Bristol.

More trials are already in the pipeline, and we're not slowing down until oat milk is the norm, not the 'alternative'.

🚨 Just a few days left to stop 500 more cows being trapped in Shropshire's dairy industry.

Trefarclawdd Farm wants to DOUBLE in size (from 500 to 1,000 cows) with two new industrial sheds. That's hundreds more cows facing forced impregnation, birth, separation from their calves, and slaughter once their bodies are worn out.

The objection window closes August 18. After that, it's too late.

"Organic" is not the flex you think it is.

At Bath Soft Cheese, we captured calves taken from their mothers at just three days old.

One calf cried for almost 40 hours, ramming the bars of her pen while her mother bellowed, searching for her.

An organic label doesn't buy anyone a kinder life. Animals are not ours to use.

This is now the most objected-to planning application in South Gloucestershire Council's history.

Oakley Green Farm, on the edge of Bristol, already slaughters around 19,000 pigs a week. Its owner, US pork giant Pilgrim's Europe, wants to push that to 25,000.

Residents have lived with the stench for years. We called on our supporters to object, alongside other animal protection and community groups. Together we've helped drive a record 4,130+ objections, more than the council has ever received on a single application.

There is no ethical way to raise animals in farming facilities and slaughter them. No expansion makes this site less cruel. Just bigger.

Why should dairy be the default?

Every café that pours cow's milk as standard is making a choice for you before you've even ordered.

We're asking cafés to flip that switch: oat as default, dairy on request.

Small shifts like this make compassion the easy, normalised option, not the exception.

Some good news!

Brittany Ferries has confirmed it will end the transport of all live animals from Ireland to France, including calves still too young to be away from their mothers, by September 2026 at the latest.

Here's what it took:

Over 100,000 emails to the company.
Two petitions, more than 100,000 signatures between them.
Demonstrations in Ireland, France and the UK.
A joint social media storm that temporarily took their Trustpilot page offline.

Four meetings with the company followed, and advocates used every one of them to call for an immediate end to the practice.

Proof that sustained pressure on companies works.
