It's worth comparing this result to the 1999 republic referendum, which also dealt with the legacy of Australia's colonial past, and was defeated by a very similar coalition of interests (although by a narrower overall margin).

Last Saturday, Australia resoundingly voted down a proposal to establish a consultative body for the country's Indigenous peoples. The map reveals a strong urban-rural split, except for those rural seats (Lingiari, Leichhardt, Durack) with the largest Indigenous populations.

Alright, it's done. It's quite a rainbow - Høyre did quite well, becoming the largest party nationwide for the first time since 1924, but still did poorly outside major cities. Ap+Sp lost big, and FrP, V and minor parties all gained significant amounts. #Valg23
