The nonsense healthcare system we have in Naija has made us begin to glorify little things like IV Cannulation.

In an average private hospital you're almost worshiped if you can site a line.... something as basic as that.

I used to take pride in it until I started thinking deeply about it..... after realizing that what we're actually celebrating is the bare minimum.

The real question we should be asking is: why are so many of our colleagues unable to do it? Is it poor training? Lack of practice? Hospitals that don't invest in simulation or mentorship?

We've normalized incompetence so deeply that competence looks like excellence.

I'm not interested in being the best nurse in a broken system. I want to be a good nurse by global standards where cannulation is the floor, not the ceiling.

We need to stop celebrating survival and start demanding growth. 🩺

I feel nurses should actually take time to master this skill instead of following doctors to drag their work.
I know a nurse that can do spot diagnosis, cannulate wonderfully and do all the extra things so he wouldn't need to call the doctor in his shift.
But when it comes to drug administration he's almost Zero, his report looks like prescription, communication skills lacking etc.
