The psychological horror/murder mystery anime Higurashi: When They Cry is officially returning with a new TV anime project.

The series revealed a new teaser PV, with Ryukishi07 / 07th Expansion credited as the original creators and Studio DEEN handling animation production again.

The returning cast includes Mai Nakahara as Rena, alongside the original voices for Keiichi, Mion, Shion, Satoko, and Rika.

For longtime fans, this is a major return. Higurashi began as a psychological horror/murder mystery visual novel in 2002 and became known for its quiet village setting, looping tragedy, paranoia, and shocking twists.

Rena’s new visual instantly brought fans back to Hinamizawa, showing how strong the series’ influence still is after all these years.
