As someone who has organized protests in NYC, including outside the UN, for many years, I think UNGA is a good reminder that you don’t need an organization to protest.

The NYPD creates “frozen zones” around the UN, with rolling street closures as delegations and motorcades move throughout the city.

That’s exactly why affinity groups, collectives and individuals organizing autonomously from multiple points can be more effective than concentrating everyone at one mass protest blocks away, especially one happening hours after someone is scheduled to speak.

Protesters can be present throughout the surrounding area, from as many accessible directions as possible, for hours leading up to a speech. UNGA already brings Midtown traffic to a crawl, historically under 4 mph. More people converging on the area means more congestion and disruption around an event that depends on moving motorcades through Manhattan.

If your goal is to protest Netanyahu’s presence, why wait until after he speaks? Be there all morning. Be there before he arrives. Make his presence impossible for the city to ignore.
