“Jahaan daya hoti hai, wahin se dharma shuru hota hai”

During his sacred Padyatra to Dwarka, अनंत अंबानी stopped mid-way to rescue 250 hens caged on the roadside. Anant Ambani not only freed them but he also paid for them and ensured they were safe.

This is not a one-time act, this is the soul of Vantara, his mission to protect voiceless lives🐔📷🌿

Champions leave nothing to chance. They explore every avenue, looking at every tiny detail to optimise peak performance.

Viktor Axelsen is the epitome of that mindset. Apart from his personal #badminton coaching team, he’s worked with a gymnastic coach to improve his flexibility and movement, and a former Marine to improve his mindset and mental toughness. He also pays great attention to nutrition and diet. He moved to Dubai for the better environment to manage his allergies, and to minimise the effects of jetlag as there’s only 3 hours’ time difference for tournaments in either Europe or Asia.

While the world was in lockdown, less than a year before the postponed Tokyo #Olympics, he took the opportunity to undergo surgery on a niggling ankle injury. Then just 3 months before the Games he tested positive for Covid while at the European Championships in Ukraine. Rather than stay in Kyiv, he made the decision to pay for a private air-ambulance to get him back to Denmark, so he had more control over his mandatory isolation and rehabilitation.

Difficult, courageous (and expensive) decisions, which ultimately paid dividends. But in the mind of a champion, there really wasn’t a choice, because had he not made those decisions, and had he not won Gold in Tokyo, he would have been haunted forever by knowing he could have done more to be better prepared for that career defining moment.

With the news that Viktor has decided to undergo back surgery this week, we therefore shouldn’t be surprised that the two-time Olympic champion has made this decision. He knows that any surgery carries a risk, but champions are endlessly driven to explore every avenue to retain their champion status, because mediocrity is not an option.

A champion’s mindset simply isn’t prepared to accept playing below optimum when they believe something can be done to improve their chances of winning yet more major titles. They need to explore every option so there’s no “maybe if’s” – which tend to be the regrets of contenders. Such regrets are simply unacceptable in the mind of a champion.

Wishing you all the very best for a speedy and full recovery.
