In 1940, after German forces invaded the Netherlands, Corrie ten Boom and her family made a decision that would cost them everything. From their small watch shop in Haarlem, they quietly built a hidden room behind a false wall and began sheltering Jewish neighbors who had nowhere else to go.

For years, the ten Boom home became a lifeline. People arrived at all hours, frightened and desperate, with nowhere else to turn. Corrie and her family fed them, hid them, and helped move them to safer locations. It is estimated that more than 800 people were protected through their efforts. They were not soldiers or politicians, just ordinary citizens who chose courage over comfort.

In 1944, an informant betrayed them. The family was arrested and sent to prison and later to concentration camps. Corrie’s father died shortly after his arrest. Her sister Betsie died in captivity. Corrie survived, and later told the world what happened, not only to document the horror, but to speak about forgiveness in the face of unimaginable loss.

Her watch shop once measured minutes and hours. Instead, it became a place that bought people time to live.
