Held a very lively debate today with the third-grade students at Monte Sano Elementary School in Huntsville, AL. Though it was a mock session, I think the bill put forth to provide candy for students three times a week (amended from every day) was a good decision in the end.
“It’s not about the leader; it’s about the purpose,” Dr. Jimmy Shaw explains to Florence City Schools employees during the annual Opening Institute assembly as they prepare for the upcoming school year. #WeAreFalcons#FCSLearn
This educator who is unable to walk on her own or drive a car moved from her hometown to Mobile AL, not knowing anyone, just to teach sign language at a middle school. She took an Uber to the school to hear me present yesterday. She said she was in doubt and needed that message!
In case it would be helpful, @PrincipalKafele and I are going to do a live (and also recorded) conversation this Saturday, July 8th, for his normal leadership program that day. This one with the two of us, however, is called, "A White Educator and a Black Educator Talk Race in the Classroom." It starts at about 10:55 am and runs for about 90 minutes. Principal Kafele's connection points are here: YouTube @ Virtual AP Leadership Academy, Facebook @ Virtual AP Leadership Academy, Facebook @ Principal Kafele, Linked In @ Principal Kafele, and of course, the Twitter handle above. I don't have any idea of the questions he'll ask, nor does he know the questions I'll ask him. Yeah, we're leaning the whole time toward the leadership side of things, but wow, there's going to be a lot of content for classroom practitioners, too. I hope you can join us this Saturday.
