@heyphilsummers@Incisive_D Also, I'm a late millennial and I wouldn't have listed almost any of these if you asked me about influential games in my lifetime. Things like The Last of Us, GTA SA - 5, Elden Ring, MOBAS, hero shooters are what come to mind.
@heyphilsummers@Incisive_D Minecraft, Roblox, Pokemon..?, Mario?, mobile games in general.
I think kids now have such a different relationship with games/gaming than even kids 10 years ago. Like the "casual" audience has exploded and gets way more attention now since it's more lucrative.
@NoQuarterSoft 100%.
I won't argue that piracy doesn't impact sales *some* but only a fraction of those 70-90% of players would have bought it in the absence of piracy.
And to your point, it's an incredibly shitty and elitist take.
@TheCrystalStory I've seen it repeated pretty often that a good demo can make or break a campaign.
I've personally never played a single demo for a kickstarter game; the trailer is usually all I look at (and rewards), but I'd guess I'm in the minority.
I just spent an hour and 50 minutes fighting the Tree Sentinel duo (in Elden Ring) and I died 46 times.
Until the final attempt it didn't once occur to me to jump the shield slam.
@TheLightIsWhite MKBHD is another example more in line with a critic, or Mr. Mobile. I'm watching them because I trust and value their opinion over person-I've-never-heard-of from The Verge.
I have dozens of examples and I'm sure collectively people have thousands of not more.
@TheLightIsWhite I never choose a YouTuber (reviewer, critic, essayist) because they're a YouTuber, I choose to consume their content because they're making something I value. Summoning Salt is one of, if not the, best speedrunning historians and I can only get his content on YouTube.
@PricelessNight Same. I probably would have grabbed it on PS5, played some, and finished on PC next year if a port came out. But I'm not about to buy a download code for $100 just to unlock all the *single-player* content.
@Hi_im_Georgie What a horrible take. "I like not owning anything as long as it protects the poor wittle corporations."
Take-Two is public and worth $6.66 billion with a net revenue of nearly $300m last year. Leaks feed the hype cycle; this was almost for sure a purely monetary decision.
@ThaWinston1@WATCHHOLLIE The frequency of the audio changes the perceived volume. A deeper/lower sound will usually be quieter than it looks, and the opposite for high pitched sounds. Could be that you're running into that.
Could also be OBS encoding doing something funky to your audio.
@limitedlegacy_ pick out a couple things (usually a hand pie and some Ho Hos).
When we had to talk about what we did that summer in school, I'd always talk about fishing, or outdoorsy stuff, but my fondest memories were always the cloudy-day trips for pizza and Blockbuster. (7/7)
@limitedlegacy_ and I'd get to play whatever I rented for a few hours. But every once in a while, when my grandpa was feeling magnanimous, we'd stop at the "used baked goods store", which was a Hostess Bakery Outlet. My grandparents would usually get a loaf of bread and I could (6/?)
