I recently visited a cracking local business: Dudley Associates in Lutterworth for National Manufacturing Day.
An absolute pleasure too to meet local Year 9 students, teachers and the team who were taking part in a work experience programme at the business.
Thank you to everyone who made the visit possible and for inspiring the next generation of engineers and manufacturers.
Great to meet with @AlbertoCostaMP at this year's @Conservatives Party Conference. Thank you for supporting Falkland Islanders' right to self-determination. #CPC26 π«π°π¬π§
πΊEarlier today @AlbertoCostaMP and I
appeared on @ITVCentral to discuss our hopes for a
government rethink on Local Government
Reorganisation in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
π
We reiterate our firm positions that an expanded City
Council area is wholly unacceptable to the residents of
the villages that we represent. ππ½
I am delighted to share that I have been readopted as the Conservative candidate for South Leicestershire.
This means that when the next election comes, I will again be able to stand as the Conservative Party's candidate for our area.
Serving the people of South Leicestershire since 2015 has been the greatest privilege of my working life. I will continue to fight for our towns and villages, stand up for local residents, and work every day to earn that trust again.
A huge thank you to the officers, members and volunteers of the @SLConservatives Association for the confidence they have placed in me. Their dedication, week in and week out, is invaluable.
I'd like to extend a huge thank you to Mick and Linda at The New Inn Enderby, Enderby, for nearly 30 years of service to our community.
From supporting local groups to raising over Β£100,000 for the neonatal unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary, their contribution has been extraordinary.
As Everards longest serving tenant, Mick, Linda and the team have transformed the New Inn since 1997 and the pub become a much-loved part of the community.
Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for everything you've done for Enderby. π»π
Knock knockβ¦ whoβs thereβ
40,000 Leicestershire and Rutland residents saying NO to city expansion, backed by six Conservative MPs and councillors. π
Incredibly gratfeul to everyone who came down today to demonstrate outside Downing Street. Thank you. π
You represent so many people across Leicestershire who are deeply concerned about the prospect of the city expansion.
It is your voices we wanted to take directly to the government today and I will continue to do so until the city land grab is off the table.
Petitions against Leicester city expansion, just taken into Number 10. β
MPs and council leaders, with residents on Whitehall.
Over 15,500 signatures from South Leicestershire residents alone. Thank you to everyone who signed.
Today I asked the Prime Minister to meet residents and stakeholders concerned about proposed Leicester city expansion following the recent decision to pause the process.
β I'm pleased he agreed.
This conversation is far from over and I'll continue fighting to keep our villages out of the city.
Farmers create value, jobs, growth and most importatnly food security for every region of our country.
Back British Farming Day is today and it is crucial that the government now does just that.
πΎππ¬π§This BACK BRITISH FARMING DAY, our farmers and growers expect actions, not empty words and promises from government.
This yearβs drought has again shown how fragile our food and farming sector is. Yields are down. Wildfires have been widespread and the Bluetongue virus has hit our livestock farmers hard.
We are ever indebted to our farmers - but they need government to be on their side.
Food security and water security must be taken more seriously by Ministers. Not just words, or headlines politics, but action and implementation.
The government must stop hammering our food and farming businesses with tax hikes. They must axe the fertiliser tax, family farm tax and support the next generation.
The Conservatives will do this.
Food security and water security are central to our plans.
I just spoke to Ben Jackson on @BBCLeicester about Local Government Reorganisation and the Government's latest decision to pause the process.
Listen here π
Today, we remember Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We remember her unwavering devotion to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
We remember a lifetime of service.
And we remember her remarkable strength and compassion.
Is the Government backing down on Local Government Reorganisation?
Angela Rayner is about to give a statement in the House of Commons now and announce a pause.
But I will not be satisfied until city expansion is taken OFF the table. That's what I am going to keep fighting for.
The Government is about to announce a pause to its local government reorganisation plans for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We should never have been put in this mess.
While I welcome this decision to pause, like many of you, I will not be satisfied until city expansion is taken off the table.
In July, ministers, who are no longer in their jobs, chose Sir Peter Soulsbyβs map for an expanded Leicester.
I am incredibly grateful that thousands of you have already said no to these plans and that message needs to be heard properly this time.
If this is a pause that is just going to delay the same takeover, it is not good enough. If this is a genuine review, city expansion should come off the table and I will not stop making that case to ministers.
Thank you again to everyone who has signed my petition and helped us put pressure on the Government to reconsider this decision.
Councillors from all over texting me to say Labour's disgraceful abolition of local councils getting put on hold???
Shameless undemocratic process now turning into a total mess - no one has a clue if there will be elections in May.
Thousands of people across South Leicestershire and the wider county have made their views clear. They do not want their towns and villages absorbed into an expanded Leicester city against their wishes.
