i love how every election night everyone is on tenterhooks and then almost every time the polls (when there are polls, important caveat) are basically right. Even the famous 'misses' are just because the races were very close and the only thing anyone cares about is who wins
@humantransit cities used to annex outlying areas all the time as they expanded, but IDK if it just doesn't happen any more or if it's easy to overlook. there's also counties which allow areas to be carved out of municipalities without missing crucial service
the more high profile a race is the less the money matters. it's mostly good at raising name recognition and has very marginal returns after a certain point
