The Conqueror's Trail traces the footsteps of William the Conqueror's assault upon the Isle of Ely in October 1071.

Hereward the Wake was back at Ely yesterday 954 years after the defeat of his forces to William the Conqueror. With an appreciative audience gathering despite the heavy rain, Rory G regaled tales of the Siege of Ely the betrayal by monks & his daring escape into the Fens.
#HerewardsLastStand at Ely & other tales will be regaled by Hereward re-enactor Rory G with his brand of medieval street theatre 954 years to the date of the #FallOfEly on Monday 27th October.

It begins the process of seeking a posthumous Absolution of Hereward's excommunication in 1070.
