I'm putting this out there not to fish for compliments but to make all women of a 'certain' age realise that we do not need to prove ourselves to anyone.

Recently, I was criticised quite heavily for my appearance by a woman six years younger than me. I apparently wear the wrong eyeshadow, my eyebrows need doing, I should moisturise daily to sort out the eye bags, my boobs are droopy, and I need to wear bras to lift them. I won't deny this hurt me because it was said by someone I know, not on here, I should add. But this woman's criticism has made me look at myself more and today, nearly a week later, I'm going to say fuck it.

I'm 54 in December and might be a bit saggy and overweight and have the odd middle-aged look about me, but no one...NO ONE has the right to criticise any woman's appearance.

We are all different and worth so much more than we often think.

I first met Michael Parkinson in Liverpool when he and his team came to see us at the Cavern Club. He was a very likeable guy and we eventually did our first TV performances with Granada in Manchester, where Michael worked.

Through the years I got to know him more and more, and appeared on his chat show quite a few times. He was a pleasure to talk to and we always had fun. He appeared on the front cover of ‘Band on the Run’ as one of the escaping convicts in the title song. He was very knowledgeable about many subjects and a keen sports-lover.

I will miss him personally, as a good friend. I send all my love to his family and friends. Cheers Michael, you’re a great guy okay! - Paul x
