Today is #IDAHOBIT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia.

Yesterday, I joined colleagues at a Unison event held ahead of the day. We paused to raise the Progress Pride flag at Newcastle Civic Centre with the Leader, Karen Kilgour.

That belief in community guides the work we are doing in Newcastle as we build a city where equality and fairness are part of everyday life.

Yesterday was something special. It was an unforgettable day for Newcastle, filled with passion, pride, & community spirit.

While 2024 hasn’t been without its difficulties, including tough decisions and moments of reflection, these experiences have been significant. They’ve reinforced my resilience, strengthened relationships, and deepened my commitment to serving others.

As we move into 2025, I’m focused on the opportunities ahead and determined to make a positive difference wherever I can. The year ahead will bring its own challenges, but also the chance to work towards a better future for Newcastle and beyond.

Professionally, I joined @Luke_Myer’s team as his Senior Caseworker, marking a new chapter in my career. Helping people directly with the challenges they face has strengthened my belief in the importance of politics and its power to make a real difference in people’s lives.

In October, I stepped into the role of Deputy Leader of Newcastle City Council after serving as a Cabinet Member from 2022. In both roles, I’ve worked closely with colleagues in Cabinet and across the council to secure investment, create jobs, and support our communities.

In May, I was honoured to be re-elected as Councillor for Kingston Park South and Newbiggin Hall. Serving as a ward councillor is a privilege, and I’m incredibly proud of the difference my ward colleagues & I have made since I was first elected in 2021.

Working alongside @SusanDungworth on her successful campaign to become Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner was a highlight, as was helping @KiMcGuinness secure election as NE Mayor and witnessing Labour form a government for the first time since 2010.

In October, I became Deputy Leader of @NewcastleCC, and last night I attended my first Full Council meeting in the role.

As Deputy Leader, I’m committed to working alongside residents and local stakeholders to make Newcastle an even better place to live, work, and study.
