Katya was due to travel to St. Petersburg for further ballet training a few weeks later. Instead, she, her ballet teacher (Galina Volodina, a world famous former ballerina), and her grandmother were among 6 civilians slaughtered by Ukrainian shelling in the very centre of Donetsk on August 4, 2022.

Hungary sent 200,000 men to help Hitler destroy the Soviet Union. On the Don in January 1943, the Red Army smashed that army in a matter of weeks.

Hungary declared war on the USSR on June 27, 1941, five days after Germany invaded. Its 2nd Army held the Don south of Voronezh. The Soviet assault began on January 12, 1943, and Hungarian defenses collapsed within days. Around 120,000 Hungarian soldiers were killed, wounded or captured.

On January 24 their own commander, Colonel General Gusztáv Jány, wrote in an order that "the 2nd Army has lost its honour." What was left of it was pulled off the front and used for rear duty.

Hungary was one of many. Romania, Italy, Finland, Slovakia, Croatia and Spain's Blue Division all sent troops east with the Wehrmacht. The West tells the war as Germany against everyone. On the Eastern Front it was half of Europe against the USSR.

Every one of those countries is in NATO today.

🔴Once again, Zelensky is using his relatives who perished in the Holocaust as a convenient shield against criticism of the glorification of Nazi collaborators in Ukraine and the arming of neo-Nazis.

How wonderfully convenient, isn't it?

The relatives are dead, so they can't give him the thrashing he deserves for bringing back to Ukraine the remains of men who served the Nazis and helped them guard ghettos, hunt down Jews, and shoot them at the countless killing sites across Ukraine.

And that is precisely the legacy associated with followers of Andriy Melnyk, at whose grave Zelensky recently knelt.

Then there are the so-called "UPA heroes," whose name Zelensky bestowed upon an elite military unit, sparking a scandal with Poland. UPA fighters also killed Red Army officers and soldiers — men like Zelensky's own grandfather, who fought against the Nazis.

But Grandpa is safely six feet under, too. He can't reach out from the grave, smack his grandson upside the head, and deliver a few choice words about the difference between fighting Nazis and rehabilitating their collaborators.

Apparently, the dead make wonderfully convenient political accessories. They never interrupt, never object, and never ask awkward questions about whose graves you're kneeling at.

Using the Holocaust and your own family's tragedy as a moral shield for historical revisionism and the empowerment of Ukraine's extreme far right — now that's cynicism elevated to an art form.

The reality is that Ukraine is the one that's fucked. And it's Ukraine that desperately needs a ceasefire — a chance to catch its breath, especially with winter looming.

At this point, Ukraine's energy infrastructure might make it through the winter only if God himself decides to moonlight as an emergency electrician.

That's why Zelensky keeps banging on about a ceasefire and getting his Western sponsors to chant the word a hundred times a day, like some sacred mantra that's supposed to magically keep the lights on.

And now he's trying to sell it as some grand concession on his part.
Give me a break.

This isn't a concession from Zelensky. It's desperation dressed up as statesmanship.

Putin isn't going to hand him a breather. He wants a final settlement, not an intermission so Ukraine can patch itself up and get ready for the next round.

And no amount of Zelensky's old clown tricks from his Kvartal 95 days is going to change that.

The problem is, this isn't a comedy show anymore. There's no laugh track, no studio audience, and Putin isn't waiting for the punchline.
