I think you might just be part of the population with the highest rate of depression among non heterosexual people. Gentlemen and ladies,
I need you to sit with this for a moment. Not as a slogan, not as something we nod at and then return to our own arguments. Really sit with it.
This is not only about us. It is not only about the comfort we want this year, the victory we want this cycle, or the grievance we are carrying from the last one. Those things matter. They are real. But they are not the whole story, and they are not the most important part of the story.
What we do now will be inherited. Your children will live inside the world we leave them. The children after those children will live inside the world they leave And the generations after that will not know our names, will not remember our meetings, and will not care how clever we thought we were in this room. They will only live with the consequences.
That is the scale of this. It is larger than any one of us. Larger than our careers, our factions, our pride, and even our pain. We are temporary. The line of people who come after us is not.
So the question is not only, What do I want?, It is also, What kind of inheritance am I willing to hand forward? Because if we shrink this down to ourselves, we will make small decisions dressed up as important ones. If we keep the unborn and the unremembered in view, we will make harder, slower, more honest ones.
That is what I am asking of you tonight: not to abandon the present, but to refuse to treat the present as the whole horizon. Think past yourselves. Think past me.

That is what I leave everyone with tonight before they go to bed. To really think about how far this is going to go and to think past themselves.
