My heart is heavy today. But I’m proud of our city.
St. Louis voted to elect Kamala Harris by a landslide: 81.37%, to be exact. And an even greater share — 82.88% — voted YES on Amendment 3 to restore the right of women to make healthcare decisions about their own bodies.
Over 100,000 voters weathered long lines several days in a row. I saw voters standing for hours in the rain. I saw voters who struggled to walk, slowly but surely making it into polling places. And they encountered election poll workers who were pleasant, kind, patient, and working very, very hard to make sure every last vote was counted.
While the election did not go as we had hoped, we can and we should celebrate that our state was one of seven to solidify abortion rights, clearing the way to overturn one of the nation’s most restrictive bans.
There is much work ahead. But in the words of Vice President Harris, hard work is good work. Thank you to the 115,281 St. Louis City voters who made their voices heard.
When this happened in 2009, my coworker called me over to her desk to look at the https://t.co/OA9M7BnnU0 website and was like “am I losing my mind or is Oprah’s face floating in this picture”
