Arafat backed Saddam’s rape of Kuwait.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians paid for it in blood and exile.

The world never cared and has completely forgotten.

Arafat went to Baghdad and stood publicly with Saddam after the invasion. In January 1991, he rallied the mob: if the Americans want war, “then I say welcome, welcome, welcome to war… Iraq and Palestine… [will stand] together, side by side.”

When the Americans struck, Saddam fired Scuds at Tel Aviv while the United States forced Israel to absorb the attacks on its civilians without responding.

Under Iraqi occupation, Kuwaitis were systematically raped (thousands of women), tortured with electric drills and acid, hanged, beaten, and executed. The country was stripped bare.

Palestinians in Kuwait were widely viewed as collaborators. After liberation, Kuwait expelled them. A community of roughly 350,000–400,000 was reduced by about 90% within months. More than 300,000 were thrown out of the country.

And yet, there were no endless UN resolutions.
No academic industry of “Nakba” books.
No campus protests.
No media saturation calling it ethnic cleansing.

Arafat later claimed what Kuwait did was “worse than what Israel did.”
The world shrugged.

A massive, deliberate expulsion of Palestinians by an Arab state (carried out against the entire community regardless of any alleged collaboration) happened in full view of the modern world. The response was total silence.

The same people who turn every consequence of Arab-initiated wars against Jews into the eternal crime of the century treated this one as if it never happened.

That is the real hierarchy of refugee suffering.

That is the lie at the heart of eternal Palestinian victimhood.

It’s not about concern for Palestinian lives. It’s about demonizing and delegitimizing the world’s only Jewish state.

Before you judge Ukrainians, remember Krzysztof Galos.

He was a 55-year-old postman from Kraków. An ordinary civilian. He couldn't believe that a full-scale war was really happening in Europe, so he got into his Ford with a bicycle on the roof and drove to Ukraine to see it for himself.

He was captured by russians in occupied territory. In Detention Center No. 2 in Taganrog, he was tortured simply for being Polish.

They beat him with batons, broke his legs, mocked him for speaking Polish, and forced him to speak russian. They shouted: "Polack, kurwa!" and "Europe is next. We'll come for you too."

He died from the torture.

russia has still not returned his body to his family.

Krzysztof Galos was not killed by Ukrainians.

He was tortured to death by russians for being Polish and European.

Russia has now lost four elections in a row: in Romania, Moldova, Hungary, and now Armenia.

What's more, no one expected the margin in Armenia to be so large. This suggests that Armenians have lost faith in Russia and are distancing themselves from it.

I do not believe Russia will take military action against Armenia. The military base poses no threat, and Russia itself is exhausted by the war it is waging against Ukraine.

Through its heroic resistance, Ukraine is also giving other nations and states a chance to break free from Russia.

I believe Georgia may be next in attempting to remove pro-Russian forces.

Armenia's break with Russia will strengthen Turkey and its influence in the region. That is good news.

In addition, sources believe that the defeat in Armenia could be used by the Kremlin to oust the so-called "Armenian lobby" within the Russian leadership: to weaken, remove its members from office, and cut them off from financial flows.

The main names mentioned are Mikhail Mishustin, Russian prime minister, and Sergey Lavrov, Russian foreign minister.

Russia continues to lose ground and its influence.

Part 2 of 2 – #Arab Immigration to Pre-State #Israel

Population of Eretz Israel Remained Sparse through the Early 20th Century Before the Much Larger Second & Third Aliyah

Other evidence of the general continued desolation and a lack of population in Eretz Israel into the early 20th century includes a #British account of the Maritime Plain in 1913, which noted “The road leading from #Gaza to the north was only a summer track suitable for transport by camels and carts...no orange groves, orchards or vineyards were to be seen until one reached [the #Jewish village of] Yabna [Yavne] … Houses were all of mud. No windows were anywhere to be seen … The ploughs used were of wood … The yields were very poor … The sanitary conditions in the village were horrible. Schools did not exist … The western part, towards the sea, was almost a desert … The villages in this area were few and thinly populated. Many ruins of villages were scattered over the area, as owing to the prevalence of malaria, many villages were deserted by their inhabitants.”

Also, Lewis French, the British Director of Development wrote of the Land, “[w]e found it inhabited by fellahin who lived in mud hovels and suffered severely from the prevalent malaria … Large areas … were uncultivated … The individual plots...changed hands annually.”

From the start of #WorldWarI in 1914, most of Eretz Israel was owned by the #Ottoman Empire, & a smaller percentage was owned by absentee Arab landlords who lived in #Cairo, #Damascus, and #Beirut. About 80% of the #Arabs living in the Land at that time were debt-ridden peasants, semi-nomads, & Bedouins.

When the Ottoman Empire ruled over Eretz Israel, there was no separate existence of any region called “#Palestine.” The Land was ruled from afar & was largely forgotten, neglected, malaria-infested swamps & ancient ruins.

And as the Ottoman Empire slowly crumbled, it spent very little time, expense, or effort to improve the living conditions.

The population of the land remained overall sparse & agricultural, and the standard of living was poor.

Thus, the report drafted by the British Peel Commission in 1937 in response to the Arab Revolt stated that “in the twelve centuries and more that had passed since the Arab conquest, Palestine had virtually dropped out of history, and that in the realm of thought, of science or of letters, it had made no contribution to modern civilization.”

Furthermore, historian Gad Gilbar later concluded in “The Rise and Decline of Coastal Towns in Palestine,” that only Jaffa and #Haifa saw a particularly significant population increase during the last three decades of Ottoman rule (roughly 1887-1917) because those cities had “attracted population from the rural and urban surroundings and immigrants from outside Palestine.”

Start of the British Mandate Period

After the Ottoman Turks were defeated by the Allies in World War I, the League of Nations granted #France a Mandate over Syria and granted Britain a Mandate over #Mesopotamia and #Palestine (top left).

The British Mandate for Palestine legally adopted the #BalfourDeclaration creating for Britain an international legally binding requirement to establish a Jewish national home there and to facilitate Jewish immigration and encourage close settlement on the land (both legal promises Britain would later break with the #WhitePaper in 1939).

Shortly thereafter, with the approval of the League of Nations, the British cut a newly created “#Transjordan” from the Palestine Mandate & made it into an Arab state under a #Hashemite Kingdom (top right).

Thus, in 1922, there were 17 million Arabs occupying an area of 1.29 million square miles that included developed land & land with great resources and wealth, and which included all principal Arab and Islamic centers.

The remaining Mandate of Palestine, however, was only 10,000 square miles.

In other words, 0.02% of the land was mandated for the Jews, and 99.8% of the land was mandated for the Arabs.

The land had become so desolate & ruinous that Zionism found supporters in certain Arab lands.

For example, Dawood Barakat, editor of the Egyptian paper Al-Ahram, wrote: “It is absolutely necessary that an entente be made between the #Zionists and Arabs, because the war of words can only do evil. The Zionists are necessary for the country: The money which they will bring, their knowledge and intelligence, and the industriousness which characterizes them will contribute without doubt to the regeneration of the country.”

Barakat had support from a leading Arab nationalist, Sherif Hussein, who was the guardian of the Islamic Holy Places in Arabia. He foresaw that the return of the Jews to their ancient homeland would resuscitate the Land.

Hussein wrote, “The resources of the country are still virgin soil and will be developed by the Jewish immigrants … The return of these exiles (jaliya) to their homeland will prove materially and spiritually [to be] an experimental school for their brethren who are with them in the fields, factories, trades and in all things connected with toil and labor.”

For centuries before the modern State of Israel was born, there were no “borders,” as the Land was just part of ever-changing vast #imperialist empires.

Even in the decades before Israel’s independence, the borders were certainly not sealed, and many Arab families of “Sham” (Greater #Syria) wandered into Eretz Israel either on accident as they followed their flocks, or on purpose to seek out the expanding employment & economic opportunities in the Land.

Two events led to the massive influx of Arab immigration to Eretz Israel that occurred in the early 20th century.

First was the immigration of European Jews who often arrived on the back of European capital and European technology.

Second, the creation of a British Mandate Government, whose responsibilities legally required Britain (the world’s most powerful empire at the time) to aide in the economic development of Mandatory Palestine, and thus brought with it the British flag, British capital, & British technology (bottom left).

These two events generated a momentum of economic activity that produced in British Mandate Palestine a standard of living previously unknown in the #MiddleEast.

The results were dramatic. The net domestic product per capita soared & actually doubled between 1922 and 1931.

It is frankly absurd to think the comparatively extreme economic success of modernization was either unknown to or ignored by Arabs living in nearby areas such as Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Transjordan.

It’s no wonder that, based on British Mandate census surveys-alone, we know that the Palestinian Arab population nearly doubled from 670,000 to 1.27 million between 1922 and 1946.

Furthermore, the Hope Simpson Enquiry issued in Oct of 1930 noted there was significant immigration from the surrounding Arab territories. This was consistent with demographer Roberto Bachi’s finding of an “unexplained increase in the Muslim population between 1922 and 1931,” which he found was most likely due to unrecorded Arab immigration due to the difficulty in even detecting such immigrants and a degree of undercounting from the 1922 census.”

In fact, most Arab immigration into British Mandate Palestine was, under British Mandate law, technically “illegal.” Therefore, it was almost entirely unreported & unrecorded.

Frankly, nobody was complaining about Arab immigration to British Mandate Palestine at the time.

The only immigration complaints were coming from Arabs who wanted all Jewish immigration stopped.

Furthermore, when John Hope Simpson first arrived in Mandate Palestine in May 1930, he observed Jewish efforts to buy-up as much privately owned land in Eretz Israel as possible, and he noted the Jews were paying “high prices” for land from absentee Arab landlords.

In addition, the demographic data from 1922 and from 1931 shows Arab migration within and from outside of Mandate Palestine had followed – in both direction and magnitude – into the areas where larger Jewish populations were building (with their accompanying Western capital & modern technology).

As further evidence of the sudden influx of Arab immigration, #Golda Meir gave firsthand testimony in her book “My Life.”

About the time Meir first moved to Eretz Israel in 1921 up to the time of the Arab Revolt of 1936-1939, she wrote, “I did not have to look up British census figures to know that the Arab population of Palestine had doubled since the start of the Jewish settlement there. I had seen for myself the rate of growth of the Arab population ever since I had first come to Palestine. Not only did the living standard of the Arabs of Palestine far exceed that of Arabs anywhere else in the Middle East, but, attracted by the new opportunities, hordes of Arabs were immigrating to Palestine from Syria and other neighboring countries all through those years.”

The British Peel Commission Report in 1937 agreed & noted the Jewish immigrants had made major advancements in the Land via agriculture and industry, which in turn had brought large benefits to the Arab population in raising their standard of living with development in the economic, financial, & social spheres.

The Report noted the “Arab population show[ed] a remarkable increase ... partly due to the import of Jewish capital into Palestine and other factors associated with the growth of the [Jewish] National Home.”

In his memoirs, King Abdullah later wrote, “It is made quite clear to all, both by the map drawn up by the Simpson Commission and by another compiled by the Peel Commission, that the Arabs are as prodigal in selling their land as they are in useless wailing and weeping.” (italics in original).

That said, it is important to realize that there are inherent problems with relying on population statistics during the British Mandate period because mass immigration was technically occurring in a manner inconsistent with British Mandatory law.

That is why Britain’s “The Palestine Blue Book” from 1937 includes a disclaimer that Britain acknowledged there had been significant (though unnumbered) illegal immigration to Mandate Palestine of both Jews and Arabs.

In fact, this coy mention of “illegal Arab immigration” repeatedly shows up in places like the footnotes of British Mandate-era writings, especially given the embarrassment it would have caused the Mandatory Government to freely admit to the sheer massive number of Arab immigrants that had entered the country in those years.

For example, the Royal Institute for International Affairs wrote about the population of Mandate Palestine during the 1920s & 1930s and said, “[t]he number of Arabs who have entered Palestine illegally from Syria and Transjordan is unknown. But probably considerable.”

As another example, C.S. Jarvis, who was the governor of the Sinai from 1923 to 1936 wrote that illegal Arab immigration to Mandate Palestine was coming from the #Sinai, from Trans-Jordan, and from Syria.

Jarvis also noted that, during the Arab Revolt of 1936-1939, the ongoing massive illegal Arab immigration into Mandate Palestine had made it “very difficult to make a case out for the misery of the Arabs if at the same time their compatriots from adjoining states could not be kept from going in to share that misery.”

Winston #Churchill also noted of Eretz Israel in 1939 that “far from being persecuted, the Arabs have crowded into the country.”

At the height of the Arab Revolt in 1938, the British High Commissioner for Palestine, Sir Harold MacMichael, said he believed the Arab landowners were complaining about sales to Jews simply to drive up prices for lands they wished to sell. He further noted that many Arab landowners had been so terrorized by Arab rebels that they decided to leave British Mandate Palestine and sell their property to the Jews.

The Jews, after all, had by that time gone from determined to desperate for their homeland with the rise of Naziism, and were willing to pay truly exorbitant prices to already-wealthy Arab landowners for small tracts of arid land.

In 1944, for example, Jews were paying between $1,000 and $1,100 per acre in Eretz Israel. The land the Jews purchased was almost entirely arid or semiarid land. For comparison-sake, rich black Iowa soil in 1944 was selling for 10% of that cost at about $110 per acre.

Immigration (both Jewish and Arab) to Eretz Israel exploded between the end of World War I & the start of #WorldWarII.

About 37% of the total immigrants were Arabs who wanted to take advantage of the higher standard of living the Jews had made possible.

The Arab population also grew naturally during this timeframe because of the improved living conditions created by the Jews, as they drained malarial swamps & brought improved sanitation & health care to the region. Thus, for example, the Muslim infant mortality rate fell from 201 per thousand in 1925 to 94 per thousand in 1945, & life expectancy rose from 37 years in 1926 to 49 in 1943.

It is not controversial to say that migration flows toward economic opportunities.

To give modern-day examples, since the mid-20th century, millions of North African and East European migrants left their native villages, towns, & cities for the more productive and higher-paying jobs in western Europe. The European Commission estimates that approximately 500,000 migrants enter the #EuropeanUnion illegally each year (almost as many as enter legally).

Similarly, people of #Mexican, #CentralAmerican, and #SouthAmerican descent have illegally crossed into the #UnitedStates for decades for greater opportunities & due to massive wage disparities.

The same logic applies in the Middle East – people follow economic opportunities (just as millions of Arabs have done since at least the 1980s with migration toward countries with oil-rich economies).

Immigration Post-World War II

Following #WWII, the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry went to Mandatory Palestine to study the conditions & report back.

Among other things, the Committee found in November 1945 that during the years of the British Mandate, there had been “unprecedented growth in the size and prosperity of the Arab population of Palestine, as well as the Jews.”

The Committee also noted the “impact of Western science and Western technology upon a semi-feudal civilization.” Arab agriculture had been traditional and far less effective.

Thus, the Committee stated, “[t]he influx of Western capital and the purchase of modern equipment for agriculture and industry excite in the minds of the Arabs a sense of inferiority and the feeling that they are contending against an imponderable force which is difficult to resist.”

The Arab population between the World Wars increased most in cities with large Jewish populations where new economic opportunities had been created.

Thus, from 1922-­1947, the non-Jewish population increased 290% in #Haifa, 131% in #Jerusalem, and 158% in #Jaffa.

In Arab towns, the population growth was more modest: 42% in #Nablus, 78% in #Jenin, and 37% in #Bethlehem.

Furthermore, demographer Roberto Bachi’s 1974 study included among his findings the fact that there was “great economic development of the coastal plains—largely due to Jewish immigration,” which he found was “accompanied both in 1922-1931 and in 1931-1944 by a much stronger increase of the Muslim and Christian populations in this region than that registered in other regions.”

Bachi noted this dramatic increase resulted from a combination of a strong decrease in mortality of the non-Jewish population in Jewish areas & stronger immigration toward economically developing areas where European Jews were building.

Meanwhile, Jewish landownership had drastically increased.

By 1947, Jewish holdings in Palestine amounted to about 463,000 acres. Approximately 45,000 of those acres were acquired from the British Mandatory government, about 30,000 were purchased from various churches, and the vast majority (about 84%) of Jewish landownership came from purchases made from absentee Arab landowners.

In the pre-State of Israel days, selling land to Jews for exorbitant prices was all the rage among wealthy Arabs.

Among those prominent Arabs who were happy to sell their land to Jews at the insane prices they were willing to pay included: the Arab mayors of Gaza, Jerusalem, & Jaffa; Muslim religious scholar As’ad Shuqeiri (father of first #PLO chairman Ahmad Shuqeiri); King Abdullah himself; & several leaders of the Muslim Supreme Council & Arab nationalist movements.

In April of 1948 – just before the British officially ended their Mandate – a young Robert F. Kennedy went to Eretz Israel to report on what was happening on the ground (bottom right). His dispatches were published amid the early months of the Israeli War of Independence in June of 1948.

One of Kennedy’s dispatches, published on June 3, 1948, noted details of how the Jews had transformed the land. “[W]hat was once arid desert,” Kennedy wrote, had now been turned into “flourishing orange groves. Soils had to be washed of salt, day after day, year after year, before crops could be planted. One can see this work going on in lesser or more advanced stages wherever there are Jewish settlements in Palestine.”

Kennedy pointed specifically to #TelAviv as a modern Jewish marvel, noting it had grown from a ���small village of a few thousand inhabitants … into a most impressive modern metropolis of over 200,000.”

As Kennedy summed up the Jewish transformation of the Land: “[the Jews] ha[d] truly done much with what all agree was very little.”

And with that vast, extraordinary improvement in the Land, Kennedy also noted that “[t]he Jews point with pride to the fact that over 500,000 Arabs, in the 12 years between 1932 and 1944, came into Palestine to take advantage of living conditions existing in no other Arab state. This is the only country in the Near & Middle East where an Arab middle class is in existence.”

Kennedy’s findings were later confirmed in Peters’ “From Time Immemorial,” which was a thoroughly researched study of Arab #immigration into Palestine based on information available to her at the time including many accounts of 19th century travelers’ journeys through Eretz Israel.

In documenting the details of how the burgeoning Jewish & Arab populations in the area emerged from the Land’s desolate 19th century beginnings, Peters demonstrated that most “Palestinians” are not tied to the Land by centuries, but rather are the descendants of the Arab economic migrants who arrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
