@dgtagle Querido Daniel

EXCLUSIVE
Britain's spy chiefs have warned Artificial Intelligence could represent one of the biggest threats to UK national security in the years ahead
The heads of MI5 (Ken McCallum), MI6 (Blaise Metreweli) and GCHQ (Anne Keast-Butler) gave a briefing to the Cabinet on September 8
A lengthy discussion was had about how AI could be exploited by those eager to damage Britain
There are concerns about hostile states such as Russia and Iran weaponising the emerging technology, as well as terrorist groups and lone wolves
McCallum is understood to told minsters AI is "the biggest thing you should be thinking about"
The warning comes in Sunday Times reporting about nervousness about AI at the top of government and whether Andy Burnham is gripping it enough
We can also report:
:: One cabinet minister likened the current AI moment to early stages of the Covid pandemic and 2008 crash, when warning lights were flashing but not enough action was being taken
:: The Prime Minister’s AI adviser Jade Leung quietly stepped down earlier this month. There was discussion in No10 about whether to scrap the role (though it will now be kept)
:: The King held an AI summit around the same time as the intel chief briefing. Senior Whitehall source on Burnham and AI: "The spies are telling him to care. The King is telling him to care."
:: An 'hackathon' session using the strongest AI models held in the summer revealed 407 vulnerabilities in nine government bodies, one 'critical'. The hack was done spending just £13,000.
:: One Tory shadow cabinet minister believes Burnham and Healey (both last ministers in the Noughties before the 2024 victory) are too "analogue".

🚨Information: Current US Army regulations do not prescribe a firing squad, or any single method. The Secretary of the Army designates the method after the President approves a death sentence.
That is set out in Army Regulation 190-55, U.S. Army Corrections System: Procedures for Military Executions (certified current 30 October 2023).
What AR 190-55 actually says:
• Only the President can approve and order a military death sentence (UCMJ Article 71(a); RCM 1207).
• The Secretary of the Army designates the method, approves the location, and sets the date (no sooner than 60 days and no later than 150 days after presidential approval).
• Paragraph 3-1: “Military executions will be by a method designated by the SECARMY.”
• The Provost Marshal General analyzes protocols for methods of execution and presents “all lawful, feasible methods” to the Secretary before the execution order.
• The identities of the execution working team are kept confidential to the extent the law allows.
• The 5 March 2019 revision removed the term “lethal injection” from the regulation. Before that change, lethal injection had been written in as the method. The regulation no longer names a method at all.
The regulation covers notification, witnesses, training, property, remains, and post-execution reporting. It does not describe rifles, squad size, aiming points, or firing commands.
