@drvolts Oh man - if this was Mt Hood then I would’ve had you covered here in Parkdale! Don’t have any easy Bachelor spots in my Rolodex tho. Hope the snow is good.
“We have no water rights. We’re the Winnemem Wintu tribe. Winnemem means ‘middle water’– middle water people. That kind of tells you our culture, our spirituality is based on water.” —Gary Mulcahy of the Winnemem Wintu Tribe https://t.co/5EYMtKq7qO
@OlufemiOTaiwo Just a heads up - the Navajo generating station shut down for good in 2019. (https://t.co/aKmfGB1cpO) The gist of this thread still very correct though!
how's the most powerful country on Earth doing?
"The report found about half of the river and stream miles and lake acres across the U.S. are too polluted for swimming, fishing or drinking."

There are days the surreality of the American climate just blows my mind.
Treating inevitable changes as negotiable, the inexorable loss of predictability as a move to a "new normal" & rapid, shattering ecological upheaval as just another issue to be balanced with others.
@maccoinnich All that E OR blue is probably less than 3,000 people total though right? Still, bucking the trend pretty hard. Seems similar in E WA. Possibly just a net positive for most rural PNW counties, bc climate refugees?
Rooftop solar? Wind turbines? Nuclear power? Electric stoves? Big solar farms in the desert?

It's hard to describe the sadness I feel over the Nat Geo layoffs, and the coming loss of the magazine at news stands. It was the magazine that helped convinced me to become a journalist, nurtured my interest in weather and climate... 1/
A great question and answer at @aspenideas - “The basic idea is that [carbon credits] create a fungible instrument for buying energy reductions or energy efficiency or restoration activities that offset emissions somewhere else”

This is absolutely bananas.
There is NOTHING like this on the instrumental record. Its likely impact is probably immeasurable.
But is it leading our news bulletins & on newspaper front pages?
Nope.
In discussing the draft, council members favor a cabinet agency, but wonder how it would interact with the EPA.
Many members come from transportation, energy, telecoms. Having learned about water for this report, they marvel at the sprawling patchwork of water providers.
In a draft report, the expert council that advises the White House on infrastructure says to "elevate water as a national priority."
It suggests a national water strategy or even a cabinet-level Department of Water

Anddd we're back to winter in the Cascades! We're seeing snow down to the West Village Lodge at @mtbachelor, too.
Cold air lingers for us here in Central OR, but we'll warm back up midweek.
