This Message from Slingerland, Founder of Family Media should be posted in every Church in Kenya and preached every Sunday for the whole of 2026:
First of all, I want to wish you and your family a blessed and hopeful 2026. May the Lord guide your plans, protect your loved ones, and give you peace in every season ahead.
As the year came to an end, on the night of December 31st, I found myself quietly reflecting on the past 26 years of Family Media - on the victories and the valleys, the miracles and the moments when only God kept us standing.
Above everything else, I am deeply thankful to God that Family Media is still on air today. That alone is a testimony of His faithfulness and of your partnership.
When I look back at the early years, from 1999 to around 2016, I remember a time of remarkable growth and an unmistakable hunger for the Gospel. People did not give out of abundance, but out of sacrifice. Some even came to our offices to hand over their own cars, simply so that the message of Jesus could continue reaching Kenya and Africa.
Many came to the Lord. Despite political unrest and uncertainty, there was a sense that God was blessing Kenya and touching hearts.
Yet, as I reflect honestly, I must also acknowledge a shift that gradually took place - one that deeply concerns me today.
The message of salvation slowly became entangled with the message of prosperity. Perhaps some of the early influences from abroad contributed to this. Perhaps we, including myself, did not always discern early enough where the emphasis was moving.
Freedom in Christ began to be confused with financial freedom. Faith was measured less by obedience and more by visible wealth. Unscrupulous leaders learned to use Christian language to justify greed, convincing many that enriching themselves was proof of God’s favor.
Today, we see the fruit of that shift.
A growing number of people believe more in the power of money than in the power of God. Christian words are used to persuade the flock, large gatherings are organized around promises of wealth - and many of these meetings still begin with prayer.
But faith has quietly moved to the background.
My deep concern is this:
When faith is replaced by money as our source of security, we lose far more than finances.
We lose our moral compass.
We weaken our families.
We endanger the spiritual foundation of our nation.
A country cannot stand strong on money alone. Families cannot thrive on prosperity without values. And lives cannot be transformed without the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the center.
This is why Family Media exists.
Not to preach riches, but Christ.
Not to chase influence, but truth.
Not to entertain faith, but to strengthen it.
As partners, you have stood with us not because it was popular, but because it was right. As we move into 2026, I invite you to stand again - not just in support of a media house, but in defense of what truly matters.
If we lose the Gospel, we lose everything.
Thank you for walking this journey with us. May the Lord renew our vision, restore our priorities, and lead us back to a faith that transforms hearts, homes, and our nation.
With gratitude and hope,
Leo Slingerland

This was yesterday. The police murdered innocent, unarmed citizens for simply saying #RejectFinanceBill2024. Tomorrow we are back to the streets to mourn our fallen heroes, and to demand a better Kenya. We shall not be hoodwinked by press conferences! We shall mourn as we march.
