Today I'm launching my software development agency - https://t.co/cddracM7e9.
After leaving my full-time engineering management role last year, I started to reflect on what it was I enjoyed the most (and what I didn't enjoy) in my 10+ years as an engineer, and what I wanted from the next 10 years.
The one thing I always came back to was the pure enjoyment of taking a problem, talking to users, building an MVP and iterating to a full product, especially with people passionate about the problem space. In previous roles working as an engineer in established tech companies, I always enjoyed the self-contained, "start from scratch" projects the most. I want to capture that feeling and make it my job.
Over the last 3 months, I've spoken to a lot of startup founders about their ideas and dreams, and there's one common theme I've found throughout them all - they're frustrated with not being able to make real progress due to a lack of technical knowledge, as well as the lack of technical co-founders to help drive the technical direction.
With dotblue, I'm combing those two insights, packaging up all the technical experience I've learnt over the last 10+ years building software products, and offering it as a service to founders of startups, scaleups & spinoffs. I want to help people plan, build and scale their ideas, wherever they are in their journey.
Oh, and the best bit? I've roped in one of my close friends to join me. So make 10+ years experience 20+ years instead ๐

When scaling your product after finding product-market-fit, things like internationalisation and accessibility are often overlooked, but ignoring increasingly varied user needs can lead to you unintentionally alienating a portion of your user base.

New article on scaling a startup.
As you grow, correctly fetching and caching application data is crucial to delivering a great experience and retaining users on your platform.

It's not often I find a tool that I immediately start using daily, but @TheQuillBot's grammar checker is an absolute game changer. Already learning new things about grammar and punctuation.

Useful for double checking anything you've written - articles, important emails, or word docs. Catches things the spellcheck Google Docs and MacOS misses. Love it.

I see a lot of people on X building MVPs/PoCs and validating their ideas which is great.
But what comes next? How do you know if you're technically ready to scale?

I'm covering this in a series of articles - first found here.

One thing I really miss about working in a company is having colleagues to bounce ideas of off, or even just for accountability.
There must be online communities that facilitate finding a group for daily/weekly catchups or planning or w/e?

What an amazing way to spend a weekend - launching a startup in just 3 days was a whirlwind experience.
Spending the 3 days ideating, validating, building & pitching with 60 other entrepreneurs was an absolute blast, and I absolutely cannot wait until the next the next one.
Met some amazing people, saw some exciting pitches, ate some great food and learnt an absolute tonne. What more could you want.
I think I've only just managed to recover from my tiredness hangover (didn't know this was a thing).
Thanks to everyone at @Phaseonetech for putting the Launch Weekend together - I will see you all very soon ๐

I love that people are still using @eatOmlete every now and then, even though I've stopped pushing it.
Also, didn't know it was this easy to make ricotta?
