I’ve never pastored a church. Couldn’t pay me a jillion dollars to. Never been ordained. Have no desire to. The only paid staff position I’ve ever held in a church was as an aerobics teacher in our church gym. But how in heaven’s name a woman discussing a sermon on a podcast could be objectionable to some is beyond me and what I believe to be beyond scripture. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, good. Stay sane. If you do, I’ve lived a long time and this has been my observation:
Extremism, whether in conservatism or liberalism, whether in politics or religion, is never satisfied. It will always inch a little bit further. It’s a constant test of the purists.
@bartbarber Sir, I pray for you in this process and highly commend your actions in every way! May God bless and protect you, your family and your church! May your tribe increase and may God help all of us run to protect the abused!
What's happening in Afghanistan goes far beyond political maneuvering. These are the lives of actual people. And there are small pockets of followers of Jesus about to face persecution most of us could never dream of. Pray for peace for the country's sake. This is devastating.
“I speak out about issues of racial injustice for the same reason I speak out on abortion and same-sex marriage. Namely, because I am a theological conservative committed to the authority and sufficiency of God’s inerrant word.” https://t.co/c28SiKH7xv
It is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. -MLK
Encouraging people through this time of peril is so good. So right. But encouraging people like there is no peril is sick. If we’re having to face up to anything at all in the American church, it is the failure of all our prosperity gospels. To the cross we go. Then we rise.
As Christians, we're often told to not be afraid...that fear is incompatible to our faith. But we need deeper reflection. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is when our imperfect faith shakes & yet, still engages fear. This is the honest, real spirituality we need today.
There's nothing incongruous to believe that Jesus is Lord & being an active participant in social distancing and flattening the curve. We can have faith in God's sovereignty & still do our part to be a good neighbor. In other words trust Jesus AND also seek the peace of the city.
“I think God sometimes uses the completely inexplicable events in our lives to point us towards Him. We get to decide each time whether we will lean in towards what is unfolding and say yes or back away.” Love Does.
Are #coronavirus bans of gatherings a violation of religious liberty?
Short answer: no.
@drmoore explains why that is and why we must take this virus and our duty to love our neighbor seriously https://t.co/Nozh9GU4P1
Helps to remember the objective:
We’re staying in
so we can go back out.
We’re staying apart
so we can get back together.
We’re loving one another
WELL
So we don’t make one another
SICK.
All our hard todays
are for a lotta happier tomorrows.
