The hard part isn't the keyboard, it's that the enclosure already exists so that's going to drive a lot of the design decisions.
I'm building the pcb with KiCad and will probably use OpenSCAD to do some test fits to make sure I have the dimensions right before making the pcb.
I'm taking the keyboard out of this ThinkPad and I'm not putting it back.
Split, ortholinear, detachable. Nobody manufactures one that fits inside a laptop, so I'm designing the PCB myself.
I have never designed a PCB before.
Day 1 ๐งต
I think part of the problem is how niche it is. It's a tool only people who create custom ergonomic keyboards would be interested in. So I'm a bit limited on who I can market it to. I've been considering bringing the price down and as a last result, making it free with ads.
I've been having trouble getting customers for https://t.co/Cc2hiRtp0d. I have marketed the product with some reddit posts as thats where I know the community lives. As a result, I have had 1 customer and a share on a keyboard news website. Any tips?
I made a mistake today. I tried to replicate traffic spikes with a reddit post hopping to get more traffic to https://t.co/Cc2hiRsRaF. However, I had 0 traffic. Then I realized - in an earlier update I did, I accidentally removed analytics ๐คฆ. #buildinpublic#buildinginpublic
Updated the https://t.co/Cc2hiRtp0d homepage today with some examples of the types of edits that can be done and an updated demo video. What do you think? #buildinpublic#buildinginpublic
@Hamdi33727935 If you're looking for something that can last a really long time, I would suggest you consider https://t.co/pf8yO3hwI2. They make fully reparable and upgradable machines. So if something breaks / needs upgrading, you can just buy that part instead of a new one.
@BuildWithEvan Ignore, I pretty much think any cold email is a scam attempt. Or an attempt to sell me something. Which the later is fine, but not how I consume services I want to buy.
@OngDevLab Well if you're building webapps probably all of them because sometimes things might work differently in one over another. If you're just browsing the web, take your pick, any will do.
@nicoschriever Fro my experience cloudflare has really good long term prices. But namecheap has really good promotional discounts, so if I want to test something for really cheap, a domain from namecheap is the way to go.
https://t.co/Cc2hiRtp0d now has a lot of configuration options. So I added some optional documentation so users know what each option does.

Added support for MX Style key switches to https://t.co/Cc2hiRsRaF today (a tool to create custom keyboard key/stem tilters). I'm hopping that this can help me expand my market compared to only supporting Kailh Choc V1 style switches. #buildinpublic#buildinginpublic
