"Turkey, next Iran" "Kick Turkey out of NATO, cause Iran and Syria" remind me when "Turkey, a NATO ally," was being pushed when Turkey was actively supporting NATO, UK and internationally engaged Western Lebanon, while France was aligning with Russia to support Haftar and we had article after article on why "Turkey was undermining the West".. May be, high time to let myopic agendas and at times utter prejudice shape discussions of Turkish foreign policy and place in NATO?
In military terms, the location of Turkish military presence in North Syria is no threat whatsoever to Israel, and mainland Turkey is merely miles away anyway.. And because actual military threat Turkey poses to Israel is zero such messages and strikes on locations in Syria can happen with zero concern over a backlash.. I am relieved to see Ankara acting much calmer and ignoring all sorts of provocations.. But the strategic long term picture is more troubling for all involved.. Huge negative impact on Syria as it tries to rebuild itself.. Risks for Turkey.. And a lot of risks for Israel too.. Not least because Turkey was.. hold for it.. the first Muslim-majority state to officially acknowledge Israel and open ab embassy in 1950.. Israel’s never ending wars is profoundly turning its strategic calculus into myopic grandeur reactions, comfy air strikes and tactical opps successes as the only tool left to respond to everything with..
There is no doubt: Israel is openly trying to escalate tensions with Turkey—not the other way around. The months before the election will be dangerous. Netanyahu and his fascist allies are doing all they can to cause irreversible damage. Turkey should not fall into the trap.
The gap between fact & fiction in #Israel media is widening by the day.
#Turkey's MOD is in a phase of withdrawal from northern #Syria, with multiple bases & posts abandoned in recent months -- one just last week.
A flurry of recycled videos from years past won't change that.
Daron Acemoglu blasts The Economist over their bizarre critique of him: “Your central verdict that I am 'oddly unconvincing' rests on unnamed economists revealing their true opinion of me over a few drinks. No persons who have been offered drinks to get to this truth are named. Would you publish a letter asserting that, over a few drinks, most people tell me that your newspaper is no longer worth subscribing to? The only person quoted with such views is a blogger, Noah Smith, a thin basis for judging a lifetime of academic work [...] If this is the best you can do with a body of work spanning 33 years, then it is your critique that is 'oddly unconvincing.'”
These people really have gone crazy. To see this language, the brazen advertisement of an illusion of threat from Türkiye and the shameless promotion of preparation of a military action against a NATO ally in such a major publication... Madness. Breathtaking recklesness.
Opinion: The lessons Israel has learned in the West Bank, Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran apply to Turkey as well. From Idlib to Istanbul, Israel will attack, if necessary, not defend.

All the fame, all the glamour, wealth, attention and more... You'd think a man of his caliber would be fully content and wish nothing more. But our most precious needs are still very simple and we often take them for granted.
Share of children in Turkey’s total population. This will fall further. Turkey’s fertility rate is below the European average, around 1.5 children per woman—well under the replacement rate of 2.1.
