13 ستمبر 1985 کو ایک گفتگو کے دوران معمر قذافی نے کہا:

"میری خامنہ ای سے پہلی ملاقات میں، دور��نِ گفتگو انہوں نے 'Persian Gulf' کا لفظ استعمال کیا، جبکہ میں 'Arabian Gulf' کہتا تھا۔

میں نے ان سے پوچھا:
'کیا یہ مناسب ہے کہ عرب اور فارسی اس مسئلے پر آپس میں اختلاف کریں، اگر ہر کوئی صرف اپنی مرضی کا نام لیتا رہے؟'

خامنہ ای نے جواب دیا:
'خلیج کے دوسری طرف کے ممالک حقیقت میں عرب نہیں بلکہ امریکی کالونیاں ہیں۔ جس دن وہ آپ کی طرح انقلابی بن جائیں گے، میں سب سے پہلے اس دستاویز پر دستخط کروں گا جس میں اسے Arabian Gulf، Kuwaiti Gulf یا آپ کی پسند کا کوئی بھی نام دیا جائے۔ لیکن اس وقت ایسا کرنا ہمارے مفاد میں نہیں، کیونکہ اس سے خلیج امریکہ کے ایجنٹوں کے حوالے ہو جائے گی۔'

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ وہ نام پر نظرثانی کے لیے تیار ہیں، لیکن صرف اسی صورت میں جب خطے کے حکمران انقلابی ہوں، نہ کہ امریکی اثر و رسوخ میں۔

قذافی کہتے ہیں:
'میں نے اس بات سے اتفاق کیا۔'

خامنہ ای نے مزید کہا:
'جب ہم دیکھیں گے کہ عرب سرزمین آزاد ہو رہی ہے، تو ہم سب سے پہلے "Persian Gulf" کا نام چھوڑنے کے لیے تیار ہوں گے، لیکن فی الحال بہتر ہے کہ ��سے "Persian" ہی رہنے دیا جائے تاکہ اس کا تعلق ایرانی انقلاب سے رہے، بجائے اس کے کہ اسے ان عربوں کے حوالے کر دیا جائے جو امریکہ کے ایجنٹ ہیں۔'

قذافی نے کہا:
'ہمیں اسے "اسلامی خلیج" کہنا چاہیے اور اس مسئلے کو ہمیشہ کے لیے ختم کر دینا چاہیے۔'

خامنہ ای اس پر متفق ہو گئے۔
'یہی ہونا چاہیے۔ ہمیں اپنے ایرانی بھائیوں کے ساتھ اتحاد کرنا چاہیے اور اس معمولی مسئلے پر جھگڑا نہیں کرنا چاہیے۔'

I was taking some sips and suddenly something touched my tongue. It was sudden reaction that i moved the tetra pack away from my mouth and this thing dropped back inside the packaging. When i tried to find out what this was I opened the packaging and this is what i found inside.
