The idea the state schools system, of which I am a proud product, can be materially improved by the pittance your VAT on school fees will raise is either a flight of fantasy or a downright lie — especially since your education secretary is intent on rolling back all the reforms, backed by Labour, Tory and Coalition governments — which have seen English state schools shoot up the global league tables in the past decade and a half.
