A bit of a divergence from our usual posts, but I would like to discuss the new, unjust use of AI moderation coming from social media platforms.
Please repost this to get the message out!

@Meta apps like Instagram and Facebook have started using AI algorithms to detect whether or not accounts are in violation of their terms, often triggered by someone reporting said account. This is already bad, but not the worst part: When an account appeals to get unbanned, the SAME EXACT AI algorithm reviews its previous decision. As anyone might guess, it instantly comes back with the same decision, as the system is circular. Essentially, once you're banned, you're done. It doesn't matter whether or not it was a legitimate ban.

This means that an account can be reported, have its appeal rejected, and erased without a single human looking at it. And that's exactly what happened to us. We were banned for, according to Meta's AI, "impersonating ourselves," and we can't do anything about it. Our Instagram of 35 million views will likely be eradicated in just over a week, and we'll lose all the work we put in. We are not allowed to make any more appeals.

Whilst I don't know what the fate of our account will be, I write this for the sake of not only us, but any other accounts that might experience verifiably unjust and random AI censorship. Let us try to get the attention of Meta and other companies more broadly, and show our disapproval of this clearly unreasonable, dysfunctional system.
