The closing ceremony of the Chinese Basic Language Course, conducted by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in collaboration with the Chinese Language Centre of Villa College, was held yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Controller General of Immigration, CP (Retd) Ahmed Faseeh, and Ms. He Fen, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Maldives.

During the ceremony, Ms. He Fen delivered remarks and presented certificates to 18 Immigration officers who completed the course, held from 18 May to 22 July 2026. The program aimed to equip officers with practical Chinese language skills to enhance communication with Chinese-speaking travellers, ensuring smooth and professional interactions.

The inauguration of the Japanese Basic Language Course was held yesterday at the Maldives National University. The ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Ishigami Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives; Asim Abdul Sattar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at MNU; Chief Principal Immigration Officer Ahmed Waheed; senior management; and course participants.

The course will equip officers with practical Japanese language skills to strengthen communication with Japanese-speaking travellers and enhance passenger facilitation.
