Sama Safi should be home.

On June 2, Israeli soldiers raided her family’s home in the occupied West Bank around 3 a.m. and took her. Sama Safi is 20. She is a Palestinian American honors psychology student at Birzeit University. She is a U.S. citizen. Months later, she is still being held without formal charges.

Israeli authorities accused her of “hostile” student activity. She denies it. Her lawyer says her name was pulled from other detained students and linked to campus organizing. No public evidence has been presented that matches the weight of disappearing a sick 20-year-old from her bed in the night.

Sama has familial Mediterranean fever — a serious chronic inflammatory illness that can spike fevers to 105°F and leave her in debilitating pain. She needs daily medication and specialized treatment she has had to travel abroad to receive. Her family, doctors, and members of Congress have warned that detention is putting her health at grave risk. That is not a slogan. That is a medical emergency wrapped in a military file.

An American passport did not protect her. U.S. lawmakers have demanded her release. That demand should not depend on whether she is convenient, quiet, or politically useful. Citizenship is supposed to mean something when soldiers take you from your home.

Sama is one student with a name the world can still say. Thousands of Palestinians are held under the same system of raids, military detention, and delayed or denied care. If her case is ignored, the message is simple: even a sick American student can be disappeared, and the world will move on.

Just saw a screening of American Doctor and it absolutely Devastated me.

The film follows 3 American doctors who worked at hospitals in Gaza in 2024 and 2025.

Some of you may remember them as doctors who coauthored the letter to Biden from 100 health care workers who detailed the absolute horrors Israel was inflicting on children and hospitals in Gaza.

I brought my Palestinian friend and it made everything feel more real. He's lost 4 cousins in Gaza. They're dead now, because of Israel's genocide. His cousins are dead.

I felt like such a fraud. I post on social media, and read my history books and donate money occasionally, but for him it's real life. He'll never get the chance to speak to his cousins ever again.

Because they're dead.

Because Israel murdered them.

The film just wrecked me.

I don't understand it.

Forget the photo at the beginning of the movie of the 6 dead toddlers.

Forget the amputations and gory clips of surgeries on children.

If all someone saw was just a 10 second clip of the rubble that used to be Gaza.

Just the rubble, nothing else.

How is that not enough to make anyone instantly hate Israel?

You shouldn't need the videos of them double tapping hospitals - first dropping a bomb on the hospital and then dropping another bomb minutes later killing the civilians who were trying to rescue hospital patients from underneath the rubble.

You shouldn't need to hear these doctors testifying on CNN and in front of Congressmen that they saw dead children who were hit in the head from Israeli sniper fire every. single. day.

One photo of the rubble should be enough.

I don't know if this is coherent. I'm an emotional mess right now. I'm just so angry and forlorn and emotionally devastated.

Go see American Doctors. It's the most powerful film I've ever seen in my entire life.

Not for the faint of heart.
