I’m grateful for our partnership with the City of Newark and Mayor Baraka as we’ve ensured that ICE has not surged into our streets, our law enforcement has secured the area outside Delaney Hall, and we’ve restored visitation rights for detainees and their families. I’m confident peaceful protest will be able to continue there, as it has for more than a year.

Going forward, the Newark Police Department will now take the lead on public safety operations outside of Delaney Hall. We will provide any needed support to Mayor Baraka, as he and local law enforcement work to protect Constitutional rights and public safety.

My focus will remain on securing better conditions for the detainees and their families and once again urge everyone to remain peaceful.

"When I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, a bone infection so severe that it almost led to the amputation of my foot. I spent 3 months in the hospital, fighting something I didn't even fully understand at that age.

When I finally recovered, the doctors told me that perhaps it would be better to take on swimming or some non-contact sport. The risk of relapse existed. But football was already part of who I was.

With the strength of my family and a lot of resilience, I rose from the ashes.

Years later, already playing professionally, came a 2-year break. During the same period, the world was facing a pandemic and my family was also going through difficulties. It was another test. Once again, I needed to rebuild myself.

I'm came back.

I went to the United States, won titles, and was named the MVP of the 2023 season. Everything seemed to be going perfectly until I tore my ACL.

It was one of the most difficult injuries of my career. The Olympic dream seemed increasingly distant. The time to recover was short, and the chances weren't great.

But I worked. I worked very hard.
And God was taking care of everything.

I managed to come back, compete in the Olympics, and reach a final. We didn't win gold, but we returned home with a medal and the certainty that we had fought until the end.

Then, I went to Manchester.

There, I experienced one of the greatest pains of my life. My ex-girlfriend died in a car accident. Even today, it's difficult to put into words what I felt. Perhaps some wounds will never completely disappear. But I am grateful to have been able to say goodbye to her. And I believe that God continues to take care of that part of my heart. Today, she is my angel.

Months later, I became the first Brazilian to win the WSL. Then came the FA Cup. Two titles in a country that breathes football and is one of the sport's greatest powerhouses in the world.

And you know what I learned from all this?

That life will test you.

There will be pain.
There will be fear.
There will be moments when you think you can't go on.

But don't give up.
Some battles don't come to destroy you. They come to mold you.
A diamond only becomes a diamond after it has been polished."

Delores actually made a good point for the Azzi fans / Wings fans. Azzi’s whole college career has been tied to Paige. Before she even got to UConn, the media was already pushing the Azzi & Paige, talking about their friendship, her going to UConn for Paige, and how THEY were gonna win championships together.

So I don’t get why some Azzi fans wanted her in Dallas if the goal was for her to stand on her own two feet.
