Andrej Karpathy just said your kids should ignore most of school.
"80% of education should be math, physics, CS."
Not because it's useful - because it carves grooves in the brain.
Grooves that get harder to carve the older you get.
In a pre-AGI world: it gets you a job.
In a post-AGI world: it makes you a functioning, empowered human.
Everything else? Tack it on later.
The cognitive foundation is the only foundation that survives the transition.

Something I realized, just staying consistent and enjoying what you're doing helps a lot
As engineering, product, design, DS, etc. melt into a new kind of role, I was reflecting on what roles might look like in the future. For example, when I look at the Claude Code team I see what I think is five archetypes:
1. Prototyper: comes up with brand new ideas; churns out many ideas, most of which don't ship
2. Builder: quickly turns a prototype/idea into production-grade product/infra
3. Sweeper: cleans up the UI, simplifies the code and system, unships, optimizes performance
4. Grower: takes a product that has been built and iterates on it to improve Product-Market Fit
5. Maintainer: owns a mature system to make it secure, reliable, fast, and efficient as it scales
Many people span across 2 roles, and sometimes 3 roles. I also notice that these roles are not really tied to job function -- eg. across Anthropic, some designers match category 1, some 2, some 3; same for engineers, PM, DS.
A healthy team needs a mix of these, depending on the product:
- A product that is new and pre-PMF needs people that are strong at 1+2+3
- A product that is growing and has found PMF needs 2+3+4 and some 5
- A product that has strong PMF needs 3+4+5 and some 2
Maybe product roles of the future will look more like this, and less like the domain-specific roles of today?

I just spent months handwriting a 200 page guide on the entirety of ML foundations and math from scratch.
The guide features:

Most students think European professors are impossible to reach.
The standard advice: 'Write a formal email with your CV attached.'

"Only IITians can get such offers."
I've been seeing this a lot lately. I ignored it for a while, but now we need to talk about it.
The biggest advantage IITs provide isn't some secret formula for success. It's exposure.
When I joined IIT, my friends and I started working on a startup in our second year.
We attended startup events, pitched to founders, interacted with VCs, and learned how the startup ecosystem works in India.
The product didn't succeed.
But the experience gave us a much better understanding of where markets were heading.
More importantly, we built relationships with founders, creators, and potential users. That network became incredibly valuable.
Now ask yourself: what role did IIT actually play?
Mostly, it brought ambitious and driven people together under one roof.
That's a real advantage, but it is no longer an exclusive one.
Today, the internet gives everyone access to communities, hackathons, founders, mentors, and opportunities. One of my batchmates met his cofounder at EthIndia, started a company, dropped out, and built a successful company.
I also have many friends working at top tech companies. Most of their teammates are not from IITs. They are from colleges most people have never heard of.
So if you are not from an IIT, do not assume the game is rigged against you.
What you might be missing is exposure, guidance, network, or consistent effort, not an IIT tag.
The IIT advantage still exists, but it is much smaller than it used to be.
In today's market, skills, execution, and visibility matter far more than the name of your college.
